Teen shot, postal truck hit by gunfire in mid-day bullet barrage in Dorchester

Boston Police report an incident around 12:15 p.m. at Quincy and Dacia streets in Dorchester left one person shot, one truck riddled with bullets and one man under arrest, although police say they don't yet know if he was involved in the gunfire or just happened to be in the area with a loaded gun.

Police say the ShotSpotter system brought officers to the intersection, where they found the USPS truck with fresh bullet holes in its front window and roof and multiple shell casings on the ground. A 17-year-old showed up at a local hospital not long after with a gunshot injury, which police said was not life-threatening.

As gang-unit officers arrived, they found Dion Caruthers, 21, of Roxbury, whom they say matched the description of one shooter, making a hasty retreat.

The officers were able to stop the suspect after a brief pursuit at which time they performed a pat frisk leading to the recovery of a loaded .25 caliber F.I.E. Titan handgun from inside his jacket pocket.

He was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm, police say,
