Two developers yesterday formally asked the BPDA to let them fill one of the last remaining empty lots in the Boston Landing complex along Guest Street with a nine-story life-sciences R&D building.

Lendlease, of Sydney, Australia - with local offices in Charlestown - and Ivanhoé Cambridge of Cambridge, say their building at 60 Guest St. will "strengthen Allston/Brighton's emerging life sciences cluster."

New Balance's Boston Landing already has some life-sciences labs; more have been proposed . Over the past year, developers have proposed life-sciences lab space on Lincoln Street in Brighton, Braintree Street in Allston, at what is now WBZ's studios on Soldiers Field Road in Allston and on Harvard land in Allston.

The BPDA had previously approved the concept of a nine-story building on the 1.5-acre site; the developers say their proposal fits the general specs for that building. The developers bought the parcel from New Balance in March for $67 million, according to Suffolk County Registry of Deeds records.

They add that the building would be certified for Biosafety level 1 and level 2 organisms - so no Ebola or coronavirus research there.

A tree fell in my back yard. After I clear it I will have room for a new life sciences building.
