I first went in 1996 when I came down for a game with my dad, and went many more times after that when I turned drinking age in 2004.
Why don't other people like what I like? Dammit. The heck with TitS, this was an entire BBW. Fare thee well. Christ, this city has become so sterile to me. I need to engage with it better/more.

Reminds me of the BossTones “I Want My City Back”’ released in 2002 (but played for years before). Also, someday there will be NU and BU kids in 2040 pining for the halcyon days of 2019, lol.
Yet I, too, have fond memories of the the Causway and Fenway Beerworks, Will. You’re not the only commenter pouring one out for one of the few places that offered the exclusive opportunity to drink local beer on site.

It really a fan of Tavern in the square but I’ve never liked BBW - it’s basically like the T with tables and crap beer.

Bring back Copperfields. No muss, no fuss, pitchers and look, a live band.

Their beer in Hingham tasted like dishwater. That went down pre-Covid. I like beer, not dishwater.
McGann's seems like it's not
McGann's seems like it's not coming back either. Is The Hub planning on opening ? Paper covering the windows still. Still under construction? Ugh.
That’s a shame. For many
That’s a shame. For many years they provided a good place to get a decent beer in a sea of bud lights. The selection is better in those neighborhoods now but I still enjoyed going to beer works.
Bummer
Canal St. was a great spot to grab beer and a bite before a game, and was always a go-to spot for large gatherings on non-game nights.
It's funny what connections
It's funny what connections memories make. I don't think I've been in BBW more than twice since the Nickelodeon closed, but way back one of my favorite lowkey day off activities was a nearly empty matinee (since my days off were weekdays) then meeting two friends who worked in the Fenway for beers after. We had a great regular bartender named Don, who was in a band called Buzzsaw (I think). We were all film buffs and we rehashed Hard Boiled, Strange Days (I still love this movie so much), Hard Boiled, the Crying Game, and just a huge chunk of 1990s art house flicks over IPAs.Been a long time but I still have a warm spot for it.
My Beerworks story
My old roommate (late 1980's) owned the Sunset Grill in Allston and then teamed up with 2 other guys to open Beerworks. He ran the food operation and the others the brewing part. I heard they had a terrible breakup soon after the Fenway branch opened and my old roommate got bought out.
I had quite a few before-concert beers there and will miss the place and their industrial-themed bathrooms.

Of course your old roommate was also well known as a sleaze in many different ways. There were just too many first hand stories from people I know and trust for them not to have a basis in fact.

The craft beer scene in
The craft beer scene in Boston has evolved significantly since BBW was the only game in town. There are so many really great local breweries now, I'm surprised BBW hung on as long as they did. I always thought the beer was just ok. They really did not keep up with the times.
