Michlewitz wins Democratic race in 3rd Suffolk

Aaron Michlewitz won the Democratic primary today to replace Sal DiMasi, according to city election results.
Michlewitz got 2,116, compared to 1,945 for Susan Passoni, 103 for Lucy Rivera and 44 for Brian Ross. He will now face Republican David Trumbull and independent John Keith in a special election next month.

Marty Walz knew the outcome of the election before anyone else and told Aaron about it?
Yup
I am not sure about Marty Walz, but looks like his GOTV team knew what the outcome would be and that usually makes all the difference in these Special Elections. I voted for Susan and figured she had a lock on it but my hat has to go off to Aaron's organization and field strategy - I saw some pretty impressive stuff going on out there.
Michlewitz who?
I didn't receive one piece of mail, one phone call, one visit from his campaign. So personally I wasn't very impressed. On the other hand I felt hounded by the Passoni campaign with a steady stream of emails, phone calls, and visits to my house.
With the short time frame
With the short time frame they focused on their GOTV campaigns Im sure. You most likely fell out of his focus area, and may be outside his focus demographics. Yeah that sounds bad but I bet you can find someone who would say the same thing, but reversed.
Picking who to communicate
Picking who to communicate to is an interesting science. Maybe you were identified as a likely supporter of another and they figured you were not someone they would have a good chance of persuading. I live on Beacon Hill and never said who I supported and I got mail calls and visits from both Passoni and Michelwitz.
Well that was the exciting
Well that was the exciting portion of show... now we sit back and just wait until the general election is over before he can officially take the seat.

Ahh yes - that's what we need - even more dominant one party rule. Pardon me, can't blog long, I have to check in with the realtor and then pack. Better reserve the U-haul - heard they're pretty busy these days and short on trucks. For some reason all the trucks with MA plates are in NC and FL.
Is there sales tax on U-haul rentals? Do they have an office in NH?

I think you have to get at least as many votes in the primary as the number of signatures you are required to collect, or else you don't advance to the final.

I'll be on the June 16th ballot as the Republican nominee in the special election in the Third Suffolk District.
I thank the about a hundred voters who turned out to vote for me in an unopposed primary, they are the truly dedicated who vote in every election.

This favors the person with machine access, the Democrat
One person has the support (from what I have seen and read) of many young people, and college students. These people are either out of school for the summer OR they are out of work so they have time to kill. He also has the support of the machine and connections with every community through working in the state house.
The other person has a back ground in finance, and real estate. Both of which are having issues at the moment, not sure if his friends will be able to write checks.
Mind you I am NOT saying one should win over the other, but the cards all seem to be in the hand of the winner of yesterdays primary. I honestly think special elections are vile because they favor whoever is strongest at the moment the election is triggered, so it only really benefits those who have been planning for it all along, which the democratic nominee obviously has been. IF this were a normal November election I would not weigh so heavily towards the house rules, but its not its a June special election.
I agree the Democrat is favored
but I'd prefer not to see the election covered in the media as a 'done deal', especially here at UHub.
I actually don't know who I'd vote for if I lived in that district. I'd like to see a vigorously contested election and some debates.

Good will sends Passoni to Political Graveyard.
Obviously Michlewitz generated some good will and name recognition as DiMasi's constituent-services rep. If he had not done a good job, he wouldn't have won, even with the help of his former boss.
After three election losses, it's time to enter Passoni's name in the http://politicalgraveyard.com/ This was her best shot at getting elected.
