Next week might be the opposite of fun for BPS parents whose kids are supposed to take a school bus

WBZ reports BPS is currently short a "significant" number of school-bus drivers for the school year that starts on Tuesday. Also, only about a quarter of parents have given their consent to have their children tested for Covid-19 each week.

Although most kids seem to think that a 2 mile walk is abuse.

Luckily it’s only grades 1-6 since apparently 7-12 have to take the T now. Can’t imagine if all middle school kids (and Westie) still needed school busses!

If you are under 2 miles you should not be eligible for bus service (age appropriate mileage shifts)

... of course many Boston roads are awful for children walking to school, so that needs to be addressed.

The article links to BPS vacant positions. The BPS jobs website doesn't list any open bus driver jobs (are they hired through a 3rd party?). The bulk of vacant positions are cafeteria workers, special education, and ESL teachers.

Parents might want to pack a lunch.

It's Transdev/Veolia right now. It was First Student for many years before that. Bus monitors required under IEPs are employed directly by BPS.
