Boston Police report officers responding to a call about a man with a gun on Bailey Street in Dorchester's Ashmont section arrested two men early Saturday.

Police say officers arrived to the area of 69 Bailey St. shortly after midnight and found Peterson Saintill, 26, of Milton, standing next to a car and Angello Norvelus, 34, of Mattapan, inside the car.

Officers approached the vehicle and, due to the nature of the call, gave Norvelus commands to exit the vehicle. Officers pat-frisked Norvelus with negative results. Officers then approached Saintil and heard an audible metallic “thud” and observed Saintil make a kicking motion. Officers observed a firearm in the immediate area around Saintil and placed him into custody without incident. Officers additionally located a single round of ammunition inside of the vehicle. Norvelus was placed into custody without incident.

The recovered firearm was a Smith and Wesson Walther PK 380hand gun. Officers recovered one round of .380 ammunition from inside of the vehicle.

Saintil was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, police say. Norvelus was charged with unlawful possession of ammunition.

Innocent, etc.

Massachusetts has a law that sets a one-year mandatory minimum sentence for anyone found to be illegally carrying a firearm. The Bartley-Fox law was passed by the politicians on Beacon Hill and took effect in April, 1975. .......... Our prisons and jails must be full with all those arrested for carrying without a permit.
