State Police housecleaning imminent

‘Hundreds’ of Massachusetts State Police face being fired over vaccine mandate

State Police and Corrections Officers sued and lost in court and now the deadline is just over a week away. That means they can only take the one-shot Johnson & Johnson jab, the lesser of the vaccine options.

I expect a rush to get that &J shot, followed by maybe a couple dozen firings.

COVID is the number one cause of death for police in America today. Anti-vaxxer police are taking a foolish chance at taxpayer expense.

I wonder how many secret smokers will get washed out at the same time.

There was much wailing and gnashing of teeth too about how many healthcare workers would leave but of course the number of true holdouts was small

It is difficult for me to be sympathetic to State Police or really for that matter anyone who is refusing to get vaccinated. I take public health and the loss of more than 700,000 Americans lives too seriously to give credence to personal feelings that run counter to the science.

play stupid games, win stupid prizes. no sympathy for anyone losing their job because of their foolish beliefs about the vaccine.

Many LEO deaths that are COVID related have been classified as death "in the line of duty". This designation then changes pension payouts, death benefits and health care coverage for their surviving families. So by refusing their free vaccination, those who die will ultimately cost their communities hundreds of thousands of dollars more.

By refusing the vaccine and losing the benefits you cite, wouldn’t they be saving us money rather than costing us money?

If they aren't "on duty" (when they quit) they can't get covid "on duty" (they already quit).

This is why they should be fired for refusing vaccination.

We were told that the religious exemptions were unlikely to be honored unless there were previous exemption filings.

What makes this entirely stupid: most of these guys were in the military, where they have systematically inoculated and vaccinated soldiers since the Revolutionary War.

This is the best Trick or Treat ever.

Where a bunch of officers suddenly discover their closely held religious beliefs.

I can't figure out if the opposition is entirely political or just macho.

There is no reason why a "closely held religious belief" should entitle one to do whatever they want regardless of the cost to others. Don't want to get vaccinated? Quit your job and stay home. Your skydaddy isn't going to step in to save my life when your selfishness causes me to get infected.

Get infected from someone who is vaccinated. If you are vaccinated you probably won't die. What are you afraid of? The unvaccinated? These people that you are happy to rid of in the police department would ironically protect you despite your vaccination status.

Get infected from someone who is vaccinated.

Yes, and I can also get trampled by a herd of circus ponies, but the odds are against it.

If you are vaccinated you probably won't die.

That very much depends on who "you" is. Are you saying that some people's lives are worth less than others?

What are you afraid of?

Science-denying idiots driving the handling of a pandemic. That's what I'm afraid of.

Even if they convince whoever is making the decision that it's a sincerely held belief, that doesn't mean they'll be told "OK, go back to work." Sometimes it means being given different duties, but the state police only need so many people in non-public-facing jobs. Maybe testing every day or two, and unpaid leave for ten days after a positive test--I expect we'd hear more complaints about the "unpaid" part.

Poor babies! Imagine going from making $200,000 per year to making $14 an hour as mall security because you didn’t want protection from a deadly virus. Overpaid fools.

So they can now make 215K a year there......

How many can they hire?

How many will get the same when the city/town mandates hits?

Don't forget: local government employees fall under many state employee rules.

The Troopers and other police will have the bluff called and get the vaccine. I'm more concerned that school bus drivers, T workers and health care workers especially in nursing homes will loose their jobs and we can't find replacements.

Would we be forced to use orange barrels to stand motionless at construction sites like all the other states?

up

After all, orange barrels can't do the hard work of posting racist memes to Facebook at the same time.

I've got to say that orange barrels is a good one.

So it's impossible to fire a statie for actual misconduct but this vaccine mandate gets rammed through in a few months? Color me surprised
