Police: Guy runs red light, crashes, suffers head injury, gets charged for loaded gun in his car outside Mattapan police station

Boston Police say things went south quickly for Marlon Raymond, 18, of Roxbury after he ran a red light outside the B-3 police station at Morton Street and Blue Hill Avenue shortly after midnight today:

Officers were on patrol in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Morton Street when they observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light and was struck by another motor vehicle. Officers checked on the drivers' condition and spoke with Raymond, who suffered an apparent head injury.

EMS responded and transported Raymond and the occupant of the other motor vehicle to a local hospital for treatment. Officers requested a tow for both vehicles involved in the crash and, while conducting an inventory search of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded firearm in Raymond's vehicle. Due to Raymond's age, Officers knew he was unable to possess a firearm legally. Officers responded to the hospital and placed Raymond into custody without incident.

Police say the gun was a loaded Charter Arms .38 Special.

Raymond was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, failing to stop for a red light and having an expired inspection sticker, police say.

Innocent, etc.

I have to admit, I really can't figure out where you're going with this one. We shouldn't prosecute people for traffic violations or for gun ownership? Cops shouldn't be involved with traffic enforcement? We should switch to an entirely privately funded justice system?

Had a positive net worth, he certainly doesn't after acquiring a motor vehicle.

So why the firearm? What wealth was this guy protecting? It's certainly not a useful tool if a foe shoots him first.
