Impending downtown food hall could get Jewish-style deli

Update: Approved.

The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to grant a food-serving license to Mamaleh's, a Kendall Square deli that wants to add a booth in a food hall planned to open in March at 100 High St. in downtown Boston.

"As the name would indicate, it is a delicatessen-style operation," Mamaleh's attorney, Dennis Quilty, said at a hearing this morning. It has proposed hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Councilor Ed Flynn voiced support for the proposal. Nobody spoke against.

Psst, the Financial District ain't never comin' back. I'd say that the food hall developers are gonna take a bath on this one, but apparently there are out-of-the-loop suckers willing to sign leases.

I'm kinda mixed on this

I used to work across the street at 99 high so I'm very familiar with the area. Pre pandemic, it would do well. There's places to eat nearby but at lunch, forget it.. every place is packed and has a line.

I've been downtown & the financial district. Downtown is very busy (cuz its tourists) and the financial district isn't much less busy. I'd give Downtown an 90% to normal and the FD 60%.

This might not be a wash.. but just a rough few months until/if this pandemic ends and people go back to the office 100%
