Flipped truck in Ted Williams Tunnel

State Police report a truck somehow flipped over on the ramp from the Ted Williams Tunnel to I-93 this morning, blocking the way to both sides of the highway.

No access from the Pike WB to 93 north or south. Also no access to 93 north or south from the Seaport Congress St. ramp.

He didn't get anywhere close to Ontario.

Shhhhhh, it's sleeping!

In a big long diesel truck ...

… speeding was involved.

.

It’s interesting how all the “I drive because of delays on the T” commenters are nowhere to be found on articles like this, storrowings etc

Ha ha ha. You're such a witty observer of the human condition!

Are you going to badmouth any dead cops today?

for the belt, on tonight's World Wrestling Entertainment Royal Rumble.

This one accident didn't affect my commute in any manner whatsoever.

My driving commute was still half of that via the T.

I hope the truck driver is all right.

Bus on Xway, "Hold my beer!"

that did happen and it wasn't much fun to sit behind. Turns out all transportation options have their own issues.

Perhaps we should strive to improve them all rather than pit them against each other.

/s But what's the fun in that? /s

But seriously, I'd take the T if it wasn't double the time. Add in having an elderly parent that I need to be available for. Getting to them via T is a 90 min prospect. On a good day.

I didn't see Car And Driver mention the Downtown Crossing station (aka "The Stabbiest Place On Earth") being shutdown last night due to someone getting shanked.

Yeah, with the traffic delay from this blockage, taking the T from South Boston to places along 93 will now only take 3 times as long as driving, rather than the usual 5 times. Except if you're going somewhere that the T doesn't go at all.

I enjoy watching the rideshare drivers zip past me at 60, then stand on their brakes when they get to the end.

And good thing it was a grocery(?) truck and not full of fuel or something

I'm pretty sure fuel (and other Hazardous Cargo) carriers are completely prohibited from the entire Big Dig.

Well, if hazardous cargoes are legally prohibited from using the tunnel, then I’m sure everybody obeys that rule and we have nothing to worry about. /s

Getting licensed to drive the dangerous stuff is harder than just any regular CDL and the pay is better and the punishment for failing to observe the "tunnels are off-limits" routing requirements are higher than other CDL errors you could make. So, it's a lot less likely that those drivers would drive their hazmat stuff into the Big Dig.

I imagine most of those hazmat drivers also end up being mostly "last leg" type drivers (since it'd be safer to ship by other means until you had to put it on a truck as close to the destination as possible) and are probably more local and more aware of the restrictions too.

You better come and get it. It's broken.
