Out of towners with a loaded shotgun threaten to shoot up a house in Brighton, police say

Boston Police report arresting two men from New Hampshire and one from Lynn on charges related to an incident around 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday at 113 Nottinghill Rd. in Brighton.

Upon arrival, officers were met with the victim who stated the suspect, later identified as Alex Toribio, 23, of New Market, NH, threatened to come over and “shoot up his house!”

Toribio did not, in fact, shoot up anybody's house, but also did not drive away fast enough to evade officers brought to the scene by a 911 call, who stopped his car and ordered him and his passengers out.

As a result of the stop, officers recovered a Girsan 12 gauge shot gun loaded with six shells from the motor vehicle.

Toribio, William Morse, 22, of Epson, NH and Devin Russell, 24, of Lynn, were charged with carrying a shotgun on a public way, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, police say.

Innocent, etc.

It's time to establish truly Draconian penalties for gun crimes, penalties so severe that no criminal will risk being caught with a gun in Massachusetts.

The Bartley-Fox Law (also known as the Bartley-Fox Amendment) is a Massachusetts law that sets a one-year mandatory minimum sentence for anyone found to be illegally carrying a firearm. It was passed by the Massachusetts General Court in 1974 and took effect in April 1975. Studies on its effectiveness have been mixed, and its strict provisions have been subject to criticism.
