Police: Man pulled out of car on Melnea Cass Boulevard with a loaded gun - and an infant

Boston Police report arresting a California man on gun charges at Melnea Cass Boulevard and Harrison Avenue in Roxbury after apparent gunfire at Olney Street and Geneva Avenue in Dorchester shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday.

Police say officers responding to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Olney and Geneva stopped a car they spotted zooming towards Columbia Road.

Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Columbia Road and Geneva Avenue and made contact with the operator. Also in the vehicle was a passenger, later identified as Herod Brown-Carter, and a third passenger in the rear with an infant. Officers requested a vehicle description from the previous ShotSpotter activation, but none was available. Officers released the vehicle with a verbal warning.

Shortly after they released the vehicle, officers were able to obtain a vehicle description from officers investigating the ShotSpotter activation and determined that the description matched the description of the vehicle that they had just stopped. Officers broadcast a description of the vehicle and where it was last seen and began to search for the vehicle, eventually locating it at Melnea Cass Boulevard and Harrison Avenue. Officers conducted a traffic stop at this location and instructed all of the occupants to exit the vehicle. Officers removed Herod Brown-Carter, placed him in handcuffs, and pat frisked him for weapons with negative findings. Officers conducted a frisk of the motor vehicle and recovered a loaded firearm.

Brown-Carter, 34, of Haywood, CA, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm on a public way, police say.

Innocent, etc.
