Nowadays, he's mostly remembered as "Silent Cal," but the fact that he's remembered for anything is because he became president on the backs of Boston Police officers, whose strike he broke in 1919 by calling in National Guardsmen, who shot into a crowd, killing five.

Been to the cheese place.
As exciting as Cal's public perception and not the reality of his personality of killing civilians which he ordered tacitly.

Why might a Boston Web site on July 4th take particular note of Coolidge? If the answer eludes you, try reading the original post again. Shouldn't take you more than 30 seconds.
Church review by President Coolidge

There's an old joke Democrats used to tell about President Coolidge, a man of
few words. It seems the president attended church one Sunday, while Mrs.
Coolidge remained at the White House.
On his return, anxious that she might have missed something significant, the
first lady asked her husband about the preacher's sermon topic.
"He spoke about sin," the president replied.
"What did he say?" Mrs. Coolidge inquired.
"He was against it."

… public persona, Coolidge was a well-educated man- Amherst graduate & student of Dante amongst other things. In fact, it was a group of Amherst alumni led by the owner of the now defunct RH Stearns Department Store (and popularly known as “Lord Lingerie”) who pushed for his VP nomination at the Republican Convention. The powers-that-be chose someone else (Senator Henry Cabot Lodge notoriously remarked about Coolidge that, “the Republican Party will never nominate anyone who lives in a two-family house”). Used to having their choices ratified, they left the hall. Coolidge’s name was placed before the convention instead and he rode a wave of enthusiasm to the nomination.
