If you can't sell bagels in Coolidge Corner, does that say something about you?

Katz's in Chelsea is the only REAL bagel place left around here. It's real old and real old school. It's not a cafe to sit in like the popular bagel chains of the 90's were. Go get your dozen in a non-descript brown paper bag, and maybe a couple of black-and-white cookies and you're all set. Their pizza-bagels are so-so, you have to heat them yourself.

Then again, I haven't been there for years (that part of Brookline is soooo far away from Roslindale), so maybe things have changed?

A bagel from New Jersey is better than Kupels. I think people like it because they think they're supposed to. It's sort of like Rubin's. It's only a good deli because it's the only proper deli and it's been there forever. That's all it needs to coast on, I guess.

There are plenty of independent Bagel places in the Coolidge Corner / Allston area. I do have to say though that on a whim I tried the finagle a bagel in question about a month ago, and wow did I get sick.

Kupel's is the best bagels in the area; despite the fact that I moved from the Brookline area over a decade ago, I still make regular runs to Kupel's monthly:)

used to eat at FAB 3-4 times a week - I'm down to one and that's for a basic bagel and cream cheese on a weekend morning. Their prices have gone through the roof and are now 20-30% more expensive than my other sandwich places where I can get a sandwich and a soda for $6-7 in Back Bay.

I wasn't aware that Finagle-a-Bagel sold bagels. They sell these Wonder-bread-like-things shaped like either a donut or doughnut (depending on which coast you're from), with some funny-flavored stuff occasionally streaked on the outside.

Now if only Kupel's could re-open on Friday nights...

FAB also closed their State Street shop, which until a few years ago was in Quincy Market. Seems they aren't doing the business they once did. Are they independent or owned by someone else?
