Covid-19 numbers from Deer Island

Covid-19 particles found in sewage at Deer Island (from northern half of MWRA; southern half is similar).

Jon Levy, chair of environmental health at the BU School of Public Health, took a look last night at the latest Covid-19 viral particle numbers from the Deer Island treatment plant and noticed the rather sharp spike - which should mean an increase in actual Covid-19 numbers in another week to ten days.

[I]t’s clear that we are on a rapid upswing. Plan accordingly.

Boston Public Health Commission numbers through Sept. 26 show increases in both actual Covid-19 cases in Boston and in Covid-19 hospitalizations since roughly Sept. 8.

i somehow avoided getting covid for 2.5 years but got it 2 weeks ago so count me in those numbers.

i'm pretty sure i got it when i volunteered to be an election clerk. out of the 500ish people who voted in my precinct, only a handful of voters wore masks. i was masked around 99% of those 15 hours.

Good thing Anna Cole is closed.

Check with your insurer to see if they'll play for those test kits you can now get at any drugstore.

There is also colds going around as I have had a nasty cold and tested negative for covid.

I read a while ago that the more recent variants have more false negatives with the rapid home antigen tests.

… who recently had “bad colds” and negative results on home tests for two days before finally testing positive on the third day.

Back in the spring I had symptoms for 48 hours before positive test. My doc said that, anecdotally, that seems to be happening a lot

I had some symptoms starting on a Tuesday evening, but tested positive the following Friday.

I retested and came out negative. Maybe it is a cold anyways.

My son and his GF came over for brunch last spring and by evening they were testing positive. I thought "this is it" and even felt like I had been vaccinated. Test, test, test ... nada. Molecular test ... nothing.

The last time I thought I might have it, I tested negative, things got worse, I tested negative again and consulted my doctor. She asked like five questions via video and called it a sinus infection. She was right because the antibiotics worked.

The old bugs are still with us. Corona mix pack. Best course of action is to stay home if you are sick and test test test. If you keep getting negative it is a good bet that even if you have The Symptoms you are not very infectious for COVID - but you might be for an OG Corona or flu.

I thought the pandemic was over?

Biden thinks so, too. I'm not taking any chances; I got the new Moderna shot yesterday, and I still mask up indoors.

Regardless of the status of Covid 19 masking is my new normal. I suffer from late Summer/early Fall allergies and since masking I haven't even had a runny nose. There is no way I would have found the masking solution as I never tested positive for allergies.

I wonder what it is that only happens/blooms in late Summer/early Fall that is not included on military and civilian allergy tests?

Could be a mold spore. Could also be something that gets in a second bloom in a warm year.

I got the up to date Moderna Bivalent Covid-19 booster three weeks ago, had a Covid-19 test that came up negative, and I wear masks indoors, and even outdoors in places where there are a lot of people around. I would not take any chances, either. .

My husband got the Omni-booster the first day it was available, but still got Covid(for first time) last week. He was exposed at a work event/superspreader 10 days after vaccine, so it might be that he hadn’t developed full immunity, but still….

I wear masks but I hate it. I have bad anxiety when I wear them. I know it is not real but I hate feeling like that.

Flu's making a big comeback, too. I know two people in eastern MA who both got sick, tested for covid at home, negative, went for PCR tests and got a flu test at the same time. Covid negative, flu positive. I was going to wait until October to get my flu shot, but they got pretty sick, so I didn't wait.

When I got the Omicron shot, I got the flu shot in the other arm (the high-dose version for old people). The Covid-shot arm hurts more. 2 days on, the flu-shot arm is fine, but the other one still hurts. Not acute, just sore.

I decided to hold off on the flu shot for awhile, because I felt that getting both the new Covid-19 booster (my third Moderna booster) and the flu shot at the same time would be too much. I held off, and have an appointment on October 11th, 2022, for an annual flu shot at my healthcare provider center, at a flu shot clinic that they'll be holding.

Since I had more intense side affects from the Moderna Bivalent (third) booster, It's just as well that I held off getting the flu shot for a while. I'd rather have the side affects of the vaccine than the alternative (if one gets the drift!), because the alternative would be too horrible!

People are acting like we got rid of COVID. Even the President said "The pandemic is over." I am losing my mind because it is definitely not. Lots of people all around me are still getting it. The numbers don't lie. Please get boosted and wear a mask in public indoor settings. We are far from being out of the woods on this.
