Mr. Postman says please
By adamg on Wed, 02/15/2023 - 10:04pm
The Postal Service brought the flash mob back this morning, assembling workers at South Station to dance to "Please Mr. Postman" to try to convince commuters to apply for postal jobs. Think the MBTA will assemble workers at a post office to dance to "Charlie on the MTA" to convince stamp buyers to apply for T jobs?

They (USPS) definitely need
They (USPS) definitely need some sort of help.
Our route in Boston gets service 5 days out of 6 at best, never arrives before 5 PM, more and more often only 4 days out of 6, and we had a whole week back in the fall with no delivery - a delegation had to go to our delivery post office to raise some hell with them.
It's everywhere
Same thing in Medford. Some neighbors went 2 weeks without mail recently.
I think being a mail delivery person on foot would be kinda fun although not particularly lucrative. (I'm of the mind jobs that require physical labor should pay 2x that of WFH jobs. Sadly, it's the opposite.)
Newman!

I looked into it, since I see
I looked into it, since I see the appeal too (fresh air, low impact cardio, the boss is miles away). Unfortunately the Glassdoor reviews aren't encouraging.
Aim higher ….
….and contact both senators and your representative. Part of the problem is higher up than your local station. And keep in mind that many at all levels took retirement in the wake of the pandemic and those that are left are overworked trying to pick up the slack. Your week without mail was likely due to your carrier taking vacation time and there being no one to cover their route.
Waited 2 weeks for Warren's
Waited 2 weeks for Warren's and Markey's offices to find what happened to my request. Couldn't get anyone on the phone. Then another week for my request to get to the right "team" student intern. No change for the better still. Due to Covid still is the best excuse to use for the world to use now in life.
Ever been to JP post office
Ever been to JP post office on a Saturday? Not for the elderly or bad backs, legs and feet. Or even the physically fit for that matter. At least the RMV has chairs for the line.
Delayed delivery
Earlier this week, a stack of mail postmarked in late November arrived. Nice to see those holiday greetings.
I’m old enough to remember when
You need to win a lottery to get a MBTA job.
Yeah, plan a flash mob
Yeah, plan a flash mob instead of giving pensions and benefits like they used to. There's a reason no one wants to work for the USPS and its not the lack of pageantry.
Perhaps they should stop
Perhaps they should stop testing for Cannabis, just like the FBI. Open up the pool of applicants. There are plenty of people that would take the job if they got rid of the massive privacy invasion.
This reminds me of something
This reminds me of something I heard about the NSA--I think the NSA, definitely some part of the US intelligence system. They said that they had a lot of trouble hiring computer and math experts because a lot of them "wanted to smoke weed on the way to the interview".
My nephew…
just started at USPS. No drug test at all anymore as part of the employment process.
But do they warn you that
But do they warn you that they could randomly test you at any time, and you'd get fired if it's positive?
in 36 years, never seen it
in 36 years, never seen it happen.
MBTA Safety Bounce Video
Check out the Safety Bounce Video on You Tube. Very entertaining but the dancing T-cops could used some additional training at a dance academy.
Funny
Last night I notice a flash mob at South Station which seems to occur routinely now a days.
They were doing their signature routine, the dope dance aka the zombie shuffle.
Usually you can see them preform right at the main entrance.
