You mean where outsider, do-gooding, nanny-state interlopers stopped a chicken joint that actual residents would have liked to see opened?

and parkland, and bring in thousands of employees to drive up the cost of housing, but when it comes to fast food, we'll protect people living in the community from themselves every time. No doubt some earth mother selling a strictly plant-based menu will make a fortune in Codman Square. Call Woodie Allen and ask if he is franchising the Happy Carrot from Sleeper. Does anyone wonder why the majority of restaurants fail within 3-5 years, many within the first year? Does anyone wonder why Chinese takeout and pizza/sub places seem to survive? It's basic economics. Relatively low fixed costs and predictable variable costs plus strong demand.

Nobody from the outside is trying to protect Codman Square from fast food. It was people in the neighborhood who stopped the Popeye's, just like it was people in the neighborhood who tried (unsuccessfully) to stop a Burger King on River Street on the Hyde Park/Mattapan line. There are reasons they are fighting fast food and it has nothing to do with rich white people living on the Upper West Side.

Says the guy who lives in Roslindale and doesn't know as much as he thinks he does about it. Adam, it's great that you provide this marvelous information source, and I am ever grateful for it, but you don't know everything and your headline clearly made it evident that you think you do. There wasn't some rising of the proletariat to "beat back" anything.
Sounds like you have some specific info

Care to share? Who opposed it, what outside interests did they represent? You've made this assertion and even insulted people who offered a different theory, so spill it. Who was behind the great Popeye's war?
