Ed Baur reports a brush fire off Rowe Street and Cummins Highway set a couple of sheds on fire.
Both Amtrak and the T reported significant delays due to the fire. At least one Washington-bound Amtrak train sat at South Station for close to 40 minutes past its departure time - with no lights or air conditioning.

Is someone setting brush fires in the city or are these accidental?
Or the entitled smokers

It could be one of those entitled smokers who have no problem polluting our community and lungs with their disgusting habit and throwing something with embers into a pile of dry leaves.
"accidental"

They all start with a match, so no, none of them are accidental, but I suspect very few are "set" in the sense that you mean. It's careless disposal of lit matches, cigarette butts and other burning materials.
As dry as it is...

...sparks from the wheels of a passing train could be enough to get something going. Even though there's no 3rd rail here, just catenary for Amtrak and MBTA diesel commuter rail lines, just the steel-on-steel of wheels to rails can throw off sparks. Of course there's always "careless disposal of smoking material..." ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"careless disposal of smoking material..."
Please be careful saying things like that. In addition to the elevated fire conditions advisory from the National Weather Service, we're also under an elevated Magoo conditions advisory from the National InterWebs Service.
Careless use of a straight line like careless disposal of smoking material puts us at elevated risk of Magoo popping up and telling us what he did to his Samantha Fox poster one time.

It really can be caused by spontaneous combustion.
Four days ago, Adam reported on the mulch pile in Norwood catching fire
https://www.universalhub.com/2023/american-legion-highways-giant-mound-o...
Low snow totals, combined with no real heavy rains for weeks (and weeks to come). Brush, leaves, etc are very dry out there.. very dry.
Add some heat like yesterday and today.. along with the sun moving higher in the sky.
It doesn't take much.

If anyone has the Climb app from NOAA, they actually have a map of reported fires. Pretty neat to see, and scary at the same time.
