Commuter rail reaches Fall River

Video showing a four-car MBTA commuter-rail train being put through its paces in the Fall River area, using one T locomotive and two engines leased from Larry's Truck and Electric, a McDonald, OH company that specializes in used rail engines and equipment.

South Coast rail passenger service, phase 1, via the Middleborough/Lakeville line, is supposed to start by year's end, with three trains each rush hour between Fall River and New Bedford and South Station, with three additional trains, total, during the rest of the day.

A second phase, which will use electric engines (yes, the T is finally onboard the electrification train) via the Stoughton Line and the Northeast Corridor, is scheduled for some indeterminate time in the future.

Although it would be very fitting for SCR to open with crews having to flag trains across level crossings.

Generous characterization of the T, saying it’s “finally onboard the electrification train” when the timeline is “indeterminant.”

Then again, we’re talking about the T, where most trains are scheduled to arrive at some indeterminate time in the future.

(And maybe this is me slowly getting the intended joke?)

They are just rolling the train through the new Fall River layover yard where a train or two will be stored during off service hours and eventually overnight for the following morning's runs. There will be many such tests along the route before the tracks will be open to full speed tests and eventually revenue service.

The rail from Stoughton is probably delayed due to the route going through the swamp from Easton to Raynham. At least that’s the rumor in Easton.

no trolley to VA JP via Arborway but now a train to Fall River,who is running this? this aint a toy train set in the attic !

Well Fall River and New Bedford are the only two cities (Lowell, Lawrence, Brockton etc) without any service. I am looking forward to being able to go there.

At least there is the 39 bus to the VA.
