Hair and fists flew when woman trying to eat lunch on a trolley got into it with woman touching up her hair, police say

Transit Police report a woman eating lunch onboard a Green Line trolley didn't just fret that she might get hair in her food from another woman fixing her hair near her, she took action:

She punched the hair fixer several times, then fled the trolley at Packards Corner in Allston, around noon yesterday. Police did not say what the woman was eating or where she tried to finish her hairless meal, but did say the woman, 28, now faces a charge of assault and battery.

Assault aside, this is a perfect example of the lack of decorum people exhibit in public places nowadays. I have seen people eating full, pungent meals on the T. Styling hair on the T. Putting on elaborate faces of makeup on the T. I have also seen people flossing their teeth on the T and cutting their toenails. And, of course, the ever popular blasting of loud sounds from phones. Where did this lack of self awareness arise from?

There should be no eating on the T whatsoever. If someone can’t go 15 minutes within stuffing their face then stay home.

If you can't control your temper, stay home.

Fifteen minutes? When’s the last time you were on the T??? -Charlie

on the T in 15 minutes? Thats like halfway to one stop now. People should be bringing full provisions and a sleeping bag on the T in case they’re stuck in a tunnel for hours on end when a new Chinese train decides to shit itself.

such as Dunkin Donuts at Government Center, Ruggles, and other locations.

Does anybody here remember when there was real food, hamburgers and other hot foods, at Park Street Station where the trolleys are?
I'm talking mid-70s, so nearly 50 years ago for you grey haired surfers of the web.
One day I saw an indigent man pick up the bottle of ketchup from the counter and start sucking right out of it. Check, please!

At Mass. Ave. on the Orange Line. OK, not down on the platform, but connected to the station.

15 minutes is like 3 stops now.

… on the T because they are going from their day job to their night job so they can pay the rent for the home you want them to stay in.

I don't buy this sob story. There was a time when I was younger and crazier that I worked a full time job, a part time job, took a class and did volunteer work. Granted, the class was only once a week. But I still never had to resort to eating dinner on the T. And I have no real way of knowing this, but the people I see eating on the T honestly don't look like "they are going from their day job to their night job".

...when you were younger and crazier, you were able to afford housing that didn't require you to commute two hours to get between your two jobs (did you ever work both on the same day?) and your home and your class.

… of knowing why a person might be eating on the T.

If you don’t like what you see, stare at someone else.

Yeah, Braintree to BC takes a full 15 minutes right now. Darn slow zones, it used to be 10 minutes.

Some transit systems don't even allow you to sip a cup of coffee or from a water bottle. That seems extreme to me, but eating a full meal on a crowded train or bus should also be out of bounds.

I witnessed an older couple on the T, open their grocery bag, and husk two ears of corn, and proceeded to have a raw ear of corn before the got their groceries to their destination… that was definitely odd.

The Alexandria VA to Washington DC Metro has a strict "No Eating" policy on their trains and platforms. I've never been on their bus system but I'm sure the same rules apply.

I don't think the MBTA has ever had such a policy and if we do I've never seen a sign in any station or on a bus that mentions it. I have coffee and a donut every Saturday while riding the T from Forest Hills to Downtown Crossing before going to the movies. There's never been an issue about it.

Rules are great if you have people to enforce them. And that usually takes transit police riding on the train to do that. Both of those things do not happen on the T. I can take eating.. i've woof'd down a donut or sandwich on the train in my time.. but we can't even enforce a bigger health hazard.. smoking on the platforms. And you want people to get tickets for eating a sandwich.. won't happen.

In Singapore it's illegal to eat or drink anything on the subway. And they enforce it. A friend of mine popped a breath mint into her mouth, a cop saw this and wrote her a $50 ticket on the spot.

I'm crying!! Thank God, I no longer have to rely on the T.

When riding the T look straight ahead, walk fast, don't talk to anyone and don't even think of using an elevator which in reality is a urinal that goes up and down.

I bet the young lady was eating McDonald's. They always eat McDonald's on the T.

Is disgusting. I’m not talking about someone eating a bag of chips, you see people eating full plates of food.

If they’re that crazy to eat dinner on the T, they’re probably the type of person who would also assault you for no real reason.

Was it always this crazy, or am I just noticing these incidents more now?

The T, truly a melting pot.

A pox on both their houses.

*Note: Beverages are perfectly acceptable, especially Dunkin'

so that it can fall over and roll in menacing arcs, spreading liquid across the floor.

And don't forget to leave your half eaten food tray next to the seat you left your bones on.
