First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain sprayed with anti-gay graffiti

Somebody went through a fair amount of red spray paint to tag the First Baptist Church on Centre Street with anti-gay graffiti overnight.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden says:
This dangerous, hurtful messaging is an instant reminder of the hatred within too many hearts in our city and cities across the nation. We will do everything possible to protect members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Boston and Suffolk County. But our efforts must be supported by national leaders in both parties speaking in unison against these insidious impulses in our society.

There are many businesses with surveillance cameras nearby. Any snapshots of suspects? Is BPD investigating?

F*ckers.
F*ckers.
My fam has lived on that street for 60 years and I can say I've never seen the church tagged like that.
So brave to spray paint homophobic shit when no-one is watching. Jesus was definitley w/ them when they did it. Badass!

one question
who would Jesus hate
I’m just asking..,
Anybody they hate
Of course!
This isn't about theology - this is about tribalism. God hates the rival sportsball team, too!
Magoo sez
The sportsball team from Magoo’s hometown is favored by the great sportsball fan existing outside of time and space. Magoo.
Who would Jesus hate?
Jesus would explain what he meant by hate first and foremost. His attitude toward the fig tree tells us Jesus gives us a clue.
So who would he hate? There is one person in the news that Christ will tell sorry, you chose the wrong afterlife: Pat Robertson.
Jesus and the fig tree
Jesus didn't show hate towards the fig tree, just a short temper. He was hungry, but the fig tree was out of figs, so he cursed it. Reminds me of a bad customer being rude to a waitress in a restaurant.
by the way
I just saw the pastor on the news. She said she didn’t cry until she saw that the stained glass window was broken.
Wow
I'm not getting all the context, but I don't think that's the thing that would have made me cry.
Hoping the neighbors do something helpful, the cops actually catch someone and the DA actually prosecutes in a meaningful way. But I'm not holding my breath.
I can see why that's what made her cry
Both the paint and vandalism are nasty, but only one destroys a work of art. Paint can be removed or painted over, while a broken stained glass window will be difficult or impossible to replace.
One destroys a work of art...
...the other threatens (and arguably destroys) something more precious.
That's just how I see it. But I understand that we're not seeing the full reasons behind her reaction.
Not downplaying the severity of the hateful graffiti
Both destroy precious things. I'm not downplaying the severity of the hateful graffiti, just the permanence. The graffiti can be quickly covered up and then removed. Not only is the broken window more permanent and more difficult to fix or replace, but seeing it is still a reminder of what the graffiti said. Seeing a board covering the hole where the window used to be brings back the pain of seeing the graffiti and knowing the hatred that lay behind it.
Perhaps ...
You should make the rounds of the local churches and be sure that each and every pastor has your official script for properly being upset?
You do understand that news stories get edited in certain ways, right?
