Update: State House will remain closed on Wednesday.
State Police report that a fire started in a transformer room in a sub-basement of the State House, forcing the building's evacuation, shortly after 2 p.m.
The Boston Fire Department reports the fire went to two alarms and generated "dangerously high levels of carbon monoxide."
An Eversource crew worked to cut power to a particular conduit that was spitting flames. State Police said the building would remain shut for the rest of the day.
Bowdoin, Beacon and Hancock and Derne streets were shut.

I wonder if they got stuck in the parking garage, asking the firefighters to move their trucks.
The parking isn't free.

FYI, the parking isn't free any more than the employee's salary or health care is "free." It's part of the compensation package.
Further, because the value of the space is in excess of $270/month, employees with a parking benefit do, in fact, pay taxes on the space. If an employee declines the parking, his or her take-home pay will be higher.
