More than half of Boston pools, and all the ones in Dorchester and Mattapan, are shut this summer

WBUR takes a look at the issue, which may be partly due to infighting over the cost of needed repairs between BCYF, which runs the pools, and BPS, which owns the buildings many of them are in.

Better by any measure under Wu. But hey we have a bunch of new offices to virtue single while basic services and infrastructure continues to fail.

I would be so happy if someone would Audit BPS and expose all the wasted money in the system and use that report to make strategic improves in the oganization.

its an insane system. Even just the hours of the ones that are functioning and open are nuts. I didnt check but they open late june and close mid august? Its not hot outside of those times? bonkers our taxes pay for such a travesty. Have it open reasonable hours or allocate the money for something that benefits people.

Probably primarily staffed by seasonal hires - high school and college students on summer break.
Lots of communities and organizations competing for lifeguard hires, too.

But the closed pool is equally closed to all, so this is another win for this city government.

You fund these pools and recreation opportunities in the summer. You find a way or borrow the money. I have a feeling Wu is checking out…..
