Healthy Latin American food approved for Mission Hill across from the Roxbury Crossing T stop

Hector and Nivia Pina

Hector and Nivia Pina want to help local Latino community eat healthier.

The Boston Licensing Board voted today to approve a food-serving license for Cilantro Latin Kitchen at 1415 Tremont St. on Mission Hill.

At a hearing yesterday, co-owner veteran restaurant owner Hector Piña said he and his wife Nivia are outfitting "a fast casual restaurant with Latin food on the healthy side."

Piña, who also owns Merengue and Doña Habana in Roxbury and Vejigantes in the South End, said he hopes the food at his newest restaurant will be more than just tasty, that it will serve as an inspiration for a local Latino community he said has too many diet-related health problems such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes.

"Our idea is to bring healthy food to the neighborhood and also teach people how eat the correct proportions of proteins, carbs and vegetables," he said.

Cilantro Latin Kitchen will be open between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.,
