Man who was arrested with a gun at Talbot Avenue mass shooting now also charged with shooting six of the victims

Boston Police report re-arresting a man they say took part in a Carnival-morning gun battle that injured eight people.

Police had arrested Gerald Vick, 30, of Dorchester, in the aftermath of the Talbot Avenue gun battle, but only for illegal possession of a handgun modified to fire large numbers of bullets with a single trigger pull.

On Friday, detectives arrested him on new charges: Six counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, armed assault to murder, illegal possession of a machine gun, illegal possession of a firearm, subsequent offense, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and possession of a large-capacity feeding device. Police add he was also charged as an armed career criminal, which could mean long sentences if he's convicted on the other charges.

In 2018, police arrested Vick for possession of a loaded handgun - after he ran straight into a cruiser he didn't see because he was too busy looking back at the other cops chasing him on foot.

After the Talbot Avenue shooting, police arrested two people on charges they were part of the gun battle: Sebastian Fernandez, 21, and a 17-year-old. Fernandez himself was one of the victims and was taken to a local hospital for care.

A fourth man, Dwayne Francis, 30, of Dorchester, was also arrested at the shooting scene, for possession of a loaded handgun, police say.

Innocent, etc.
