Citizen complaint of the day: Spacecraft don't need lights guiding them into the South End

An annoyed citizen filed a 311 complaint tonight about the brighter than bright billboard at Albany Street and Frontage Road:
I am not exactly near this board, but the light from it lights up my house and colors the whole place. This must be able to be turned down, please!

Blank, or just an overexposure?
Too much light for too long an exposure time can make it look solid white in a photograph, when it really isn't.
Brightness is relative
If the photograph were overexposed, the surrounding landscape would also look too bright.
Turns out...
It was overexposed. Channel 7 News at 9 did a story about it tonight. Their video cameras had a problem with exposure early in the report. Multiple people interviewed in the neighborhood are complaining about it. Especially the people who live in one of the new apartment building directly across from it.

I know it's not the point of
I know it's not the point of this article, but Boston shouldn't approve ANY digital billboards. Not only do they (often) cause issues like this and have insane brightness distract the entire neighborhood, but their sole benefit is that the default is already bright and switching between ad screens causes people to glance at them--and off of the road ahead of them. They literally cause distracted driving by design.

Boston should ban all billboards, whether electronic or not. Forbid any sign that does not advertise services offered on the premises. The only people who would oppose such a law are sign owners.

That being said, yup, this is too bright. It is distracting on the X-Way.
Who to blame? - The Pine Street Inn. They lease the billboards with the profits going to help the homeless.

At least National Development keeps the one at the corner of Albany and Herald with muted colors.
