Passenger in car pulled over for speeding in Dorchester is arrested for the gun loaded with eight bullets in his fanny pack, police say
A Mattapan man faces a variety of gun charges for the gun loaded with eight bullets that Boston Police report he had with him when officers pulled over the driver of the car he was in for speeding in Dorchester Wednesday afternoon.
Police say the officers spotted a driver for speeding down Bird Street towards Columbia Road and pulled him over a half mile down Columbia at Pond Street around 1:45 p.m.
Officers made contact with the occupants, and observed one of the passengers to not be wearing his seatbelt. Officers requested the passenger’s information, and later determined that the information provided was false. At this time, officers requested the passenger to exit the vehicle.
As the door opened, a fanny pack fell to the ground, and a firearm was located inside. The passenger attempted to flee the area, and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers were quickly able to handcuff the individual, and place him under arrest. The recovered firearm was later determined to be a Walther P5 with eight rounds in the magazine.
Travin Parara, 20, of Mattapan, was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition, police say. Dorchester Municipal Court records show he was also charged with illegal possession of a loaded firearm, as well as illegal possession of a firearm, second offense, which could mean a longer sentence for the other charges if he is convicted.
Judge Erika Reis ordered him held in lieu of $20,000 bail, court records show.
Innocent, etc.

Bird St has speed bumps now.
Bird St has speed bumps now. Was just wondering this am what that would do to your car if you sped over them.
Most of the side streets
Most of the side streets between Columbia and Hancock have seen them pop up in the last few weeks.
They're decent as speed humps (not bumps) go. They do discourage excessive speed without the too-typical result of creaking springs at anything over 8 MPH.
A little surprised to see paving/adding in the middle of winter, but they've held up so far - will be interesting to see how they do into spring/summer.
A fanny pack
I think that right there would be grounds for arrest by the Fashion Police.
What is this? 1990?
It's practical.

His parachute pants don't have a belt and would never hold up the weight of a holster.
Tell me you know nothing
Tell me you know nothing about crime without telling me..
Fanny parks are everywhere. They’re very, very commonly used by violent people to hide their guns. This has been going on for years. Years.

Wow
You must be fun at parties.
Lighten up Francis, it was a joke.
Passengers do not have to
Passengers do not have to identify themselves by name or address upon request by a police officer, unless perhaps when the officer is trying to issue you a citation (if you're not wearing a seatbelt)
That threw me too until I got
That threw me too until I got to the part about not wearing a seatbelt..
