State Police report a Salem woman this morning led police from the North Shore into Boston on a wild chase full of crashed cars and gates - at the Coast Guard base in the North End and at Fenway Park, both of which police say she rammed into with her 2024 Honda Accord.
State Police say Colleen Marie Gibbs' Honda odyssey began around 7 a.m. in Revere, when a motorist flagged down a trooper at Ocean Avenue and Revere Street to report a person driving "erratically and aggressively."
The Trooper then observed the suspect vehicle passing his location on Ocean Avenue. The female operator honked the car’s horn and yelled something before speeding off.
The Trooper activated his cruiser’s lights and siren and attempted to stop the Honda. The vehicle refused to stop; because of the density of the area no pursuit was initiated. The vehicle was last seen on Revere Street in the area of St. Anthony’s Church.
The trooper radioed the car's description and plate number:
At 7:30 AM Troopers from the State Police-Tunnels Barracks responded to reports of a hit and run crash at the entrance to the Ted Williams Tunnel in East Boston. Subsequent investigation determined that the same operator who fled from the Trooper in Revere had struck two vehicles at the entrance to the Tunnel and fled scene. The motorists whose vehicles were struck had no apparent injuries.
About 10 minutes later, Gibbs got into the Coast Guard base on Commercial Street by ramming into one of its gates, then quickly exited by ramming another gate, taking a right onto Commercial.
Around 8 a.m., Boston 911 got a call about a drunk woman in an Accord who had slammed into several cars at Boylston and Exeter streets, then turned down Boylston the wrong way towards the Fenway.
Around 8:20 a.m., a cop working a detail on Lansdowne Street radioed in that a woman had just driven into Fenway Park's Gate C - and that she would likely need some medical evaluation. The detail cop, eventually aided by several D-4 officers, managed to detain the woman long enough to get her into an ambulance.
State Police said Gibbs, 48, of Salem, will eventually face charges in both East Boston and Chelsea courts for the incidents at the tunnel entrance and Revere. Boston Police could seek additional charges for the North End and Fenway incidents.
As of this afternoon, Gibbs has been formally charged in Chelsea District Court with failure to stop for a police officer, reckless operation, marked lanes violations and speeding, according to court records. The first two are misdemeanors that could include jail time, the second two civil infractions that would mean fines and insurance surcharges on conviction.
Innocent, etc.

He or she who rams vehicle into base gate is immediately met with gunfire, she's lucky.
And for her to continue from North End to Fenway, during rush hour... thats just shitty police work.
Rush Hour?

A cop just flipped his cruiser last week responding to a robbery, you think we should have more crazy driving to deal with the crazy driver?

She didn't hurt anybody, suspend her license for 30 days and send her back to rehab.

Trauma harms and hurts. If she had crossed my path and nearly hit me, I’d would have felt it.
Like I I do every time a driver nearly kills me.
She’s not going to become a safe driver in 30 days. Why should we even take a chance on allowing her behind the wheel ever again?

This is one of dumbest, most self-serving, self-aggrandizing things I have ever read.
Where do we send the flowers and the mass cards you poor child?

You know what? He's right. She's not going to become a safe driver in 30 days, and the fact that no one was injured is dumb luck and certainly not due to any care on her part. Treat her accordingly.

She wasn't from Marshfield, so that reason for you to excuse her behavior is out, I guess.

I am not excusing her behavior.
I am pointing out that a somewhat sentient collection of wrinkles victimized himself in a hypothetical manner.
See? Understand?
Of course you are excusing it, John Boy.

If this type of stuff happened everyday and no one ever got hurt I wouldn't say it's all good. She terrorized every area she drove through. Yes, a close call is nothing compared to death or injury, but we should absolutely enforce severe consequences for this behavior because it's not compatible with with a civil society.

No. How about 30 months in prison and then a lifetime driving ban. I bet you get upset when you see a cyclist go through a yellow light yet don't seem to care about this menace who did just about everything she could to kill multiple people. Seek help for your Car Brain.

For those playing the home game, don't worry. I saw a cyclist run a red today and I glared at them sternly!
