Thanksgiving must come early this year
We took a break from our usual Shaw's/Roche Bros. shopping routine today and went down to the Super-Mega-Humongo Stop & Shop in Dedham to take advantage of the 5% one-time discount you get when you sign your life away to Stop & Shop so they can data-mine your purchases to hell and back and bombard you with endless promotions (i.e., you register your new 'n' improved see-through Stop & Shop card).
They have so much room at this Colossus of a store that the deli department was able to devote an entire display case to a Thanksgiving diorama featuring two Pilgrim dolls giving thanks for nature's bounty, in the form of cold cuts, cheeses, olives and pumpkins. Don't worry, a few aisles away, they had a complete selection of Halloween candy.
Not the best cell-phone photo I've ever taken, but you get the idea:

Thank God that capatalists
Thank God that capatalists still exist in Massachusetts. This display that can be donated to the poor is much better than waiting in line for a roll of toilet paper like the socialists do. I'll take two of them there turkeys.
Wow
That's insane.

Quit yer bitchin
Our regular shop is at the Stop and Shop on Truman Highway. We have been calling this place the "ghetto store" for a decade. Wobbly, rusty carts, no shelf space, ancient tile floors, bad lighting, etc.
Legacy Place?
Gotta love those 50s era grocery stores.
Adam didn't say so but I bet the family demanded he also take them to nearby Legacy Place, which opening this weekend. Quite the snooty place that.
I never really thought of Dedham as a preferred-address town. Perhaps things change.
You spying on us?
We actually did drive around Legacy Place on Sunday! On a detour on the way to the Stop & Shop. No, we didn't actually get out of the car.
Looks like a cross between Patriot Place and Shoppers World. Has the "village" feel of the former, but with the parking lots of the latter. Actually, it's much closer to Patriot Place because a) it doesn't look like a prison from the outside and b) It's a series of non-big-boxes. I wonder how people will feel marching across the tundra in February, though (there's a reason outdoor malls fell out of favor north of the Mason-Dixon line).
I checked it out too. LL Bean
is very nice, though i wonder why they're already having a 20% off sale (albeit only on gear, footwear, and hiking apparel, not the "regular" clothing).
Day 1
In turn, I went to the Apple Store and Stride Rite. I got the impression the sales were for the day 1 opening?
My first impression was of the Derby Street Shoppes [sic] in mighty Hingham MA.
Wife claims she will shop there now.
Worse than that (more forsaken) would be the American Legion Hwy
block with a shell of a Bradlee's, and an old grocery store, which I believe they're finally renovating. And not a decade too soon...

Well, I Guess It Might Have Been Worse
It could have been a Santa Claus carved from mortadella (or a Hanukkah Harry made out of pastrami...)

I saw the aisle full of Halloween candy but missed this. Maybe it belongs in the nearby Museum of Bad Art?
