Riders injured when Green Line trolley derails near Lechmere

Derailed trolley

Not supposed to bend that way: Alexander Taylor was on the Community Path just after the derailment.

The Cambridge Fire Department reports several people suffered non-life-threatening injuries when a trolley came off the tracks near 10 Morgan Ave.

Looks like the trail derailed on the elevated viaduct. The edges of which appears to only be cordoned off by chain link and maybe a 1 foot high concrete curb. That definitely could have been a whole lot worse.

Destination sign says "Union" but front of train went over switch heading to Medford/Tufts and the center set of wheels started heading toward Union.
Seems like either defective switch or "operator error"

Not defending the T - at all - on this, but if you look at how much space (and other track) is between this trolley and the railing I will venture to guess that it would have taken a tremendous speed to have gone over the edge. You can't see it from this image but it's there.

We all know that the minister of propaganda at the T will call this a minor derailment with minor injuries. A few more feet and this would have been a major disaster with dozens of passengers plunging off the viaduct to the street below.

on the way home from work at 5:10 p.m. Saw multiple emergency service vehicles parked nearby, and many T officials and police up by the train. Didn't see any injured people; hopefully they had already been evacuated.

Meet the old MBTA.

And I will note that we don't know what caused the derailment, but it would be nice if we weren't known for excessive derailments.
