Boston Police report officers responding to a ShotSpotter activation for gunfire at Westville and Ditson streets in Dorchester's Fields Corner around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday found a man with a gun in his left pocket.
Officers drew their firearms and commanded the man to stop and show his hands.
While Officers had him at gunpoint, the man became emotional and started to communicate his suicidal ideations with Officers. Officers recognized his fraught emotional state and started using de-escalation tactics in an attempt to disarm the man. It was at this time that the man removed the firearm from his pocket and aimed it at his own head.
Officers continued to use de-escalation tactics with the man, and after having a conversation with him, he dropped his firearm. Officers were able to arrest this individual, later identified as 24-year-old male from Dorchester, and he was treated at a local hospital before being processed without further incident.
Police say the man's gun, a Glock with no serial number, was loaded with 26 bullets,
The man was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device and illegal possession of ammunition, police say, adding:
For those who find themselves in need of emotional support or simply needing to talk to someone about the distressing events in our community, the Boston Neighborhood Trauma Team (NTT) provides free, private support 24/7 at 617-431-0125.

no force is perfect, but we are lucky to have police with an ethic of minimum force and yes, bravery.

Police in, say, Minnesota, have opened fire over much, much less.
Cops should probably study what BPD does, frankly, even if they're not perfect. Probably having fewer guns overall helps too.
(Don't make me eat my words, BPD.)
Where did this guy get

He took a bus ride down to a state where they're legal, like Alabama. If not, he bought it from somebody who was enterprising - and who hasn't gotten caught yet.
