The Swellesley Report reports high schools in Wellesley, Wayland and Weston got calls Friday afternoon about a kid in a bathroom with a gun, only there was no kid in a bathroom with a gun. Somerville High School was also swatted Friday.

There's got to be a better way of handling these

Which starts by not considering every call as an emergency situation unless the reporting number has an E911 lookup to a location within the city or the school's VoIP system.

Problem is... It's a "Better safe than sorry" sorta thing.
Do you want to be the person who makes the decision to ignore something that could turn out to be a valid threat?
I wouldn't want to be that person.
I agree that something should be done but this has been going on since 1876 so it is not going to change any time soon.
I hope the cops can trace the calls at least to catch the perp.
The way I see it

There's a higher likelihood of someone getting hurt due to a strong police response to a prank vs a slow police response to a active shooter.
Few like to see cops in schools.

But do the stats support your theory?
I have no idea. Right now I go with the lesser of two evils which is take every threat seriously and keep training police in best practices.

The majority of casualties occur within the first minutes of an active shooter incident, unfortunately. Slow police responses lead, in the worst cases, to what was allowed to happen in Uvalde.
If there is even the possibility that there is an active shooter in a school, every second counts to save lives.

The police responded and knew there was a real active shooter but waited outside anyway. That's not what's being discussed here.

This is not happening in your head, where things happed the way you imagine.
You spoke of people who have been hurt by these police responses. Please name two of them.
Can't? Gee almost like you're needfully smoke blowing.

These are the moms whose sole rationale for their precious one to have a cell phone in school is for active shooter situations so they can......I don't know.
You seem to know a lot about suburban moms.

Are there any suburban fathers?
Or is it always just the mothers you dislike?
There are harms from these false-alarm lockdowns too

But the districts and local PD are doing their level best to keep from rewarding the griefers with publicity. Our local news outlets have avoided mentioning these, and the incidents are omitted from the Police Log.
Right now, multiple high schools in the area have extra police presence, daily, because of repeated swattings. It sucks beyond measure.
Back in my day it was bomb scares.

Let's hope the cops find these young edgelords before someone gets hurt.
