A fed-up resident filed a 311 complaint yesterday about a guy who is always playing his bagpipes in Adams-King Playground in Dorchester:
Unknown person playing bag pipes in park in Dorchester. Adams King Playground. Can someone stop him. Plays every night at 5pm.
The city has marked the case closed:
Permits are not required for street performers and musicians as long as no laws are being broken. Noise ordinance is not affected at this time of day.

Might be three of four pipers there soon with that attitude.
What's the chance the complainer just recently "discovering" St. Ann's Parish? I'd wager pretty strong.
Did they miss the "play" part of the playground?

It's probably slightly closer to St. Mark's, though Adams Street seems to be the dividing line for many. ;^)

I know it is closer to St. Mark's but all the kids east of Adams went to St. Ann's, west of Adams to St. Mark's. North of Dix Street and Victory Road was St. Ambrose.
Just like kids one block over from me went to St. Greg's.
5 pm you say? Adam king

5 pm you say? Adam king playground? Sounds like free promo to me
I’d be happy if the bagpiper played in my neighborhood.

I love bagpipes, how 'bout we bring folding chairs and make this a regular evening outing. Maybe caller would be interested in a nice condo in the Navy Yard?
Are you aware

That some neighborhoods are troubled with loud amplified music waking them at 4 am every weekend? Bagpipes at 5 pm doesn’t seem to be a big deal.
What’s really the issue here??

Every once in a while I come across a guy practicing the pipes in the cemetery between Baker and LaGrange St, off the Parkway. I gotta say, its maybe the most appropriate place to do so. Just fits. Better than a playground, IMO.
St. Mark's pipers

A team of pipers (police maybe?) used to practice at St. Mark's church on Dot Ave on Saturdays. Sometimes in the hall and sometimes in the parking lot. Not my thing but, hey, there's such a thing as earplugs.

That complaint is one very effective way to broadcast that you're a johnny come lately to a neighborhood that's loaded with Boston cops & firemen. Maybe they would prefer to move to a neighborhood in the city where gunfire is more common than bagpipes.

I think he used to practice at home, but the houses are so close together it really magnifies the sound. The park is the closest place to be out in the open.

Some people's kids just don't know how to enjoy a good thing. Sheesh.
(If ever there was a better excuse to have an impromptu cèilidh...)
