Rather than doing last minute canvassing and GOTV in a state where it matters, some Trumpies tried to compete with a billboard in Dorchester

Trumpies on an overpass

A roving UHub photographer spotted a couple of gaggles of Trump supporters by and above the Expressway at South Bay today - some on the Southampton Street overpass, some along Frontage Road, all just up the road from the pro-Harris billboard at the IBEW hall.

Our photog expressed puzzlement over the activity in a city that is going to give Harris an overwhelming majority:

I don’t get doing stuff like this instead of like making calls or texts or going up to New Hampshire. It doesn’t help him. He doesn’t need to boost his name lol. This is stuff you see like City Council or state reps do, not a presidential campaign.

Of course this will just enhance the reach of the billboard.

Also, in 2020 these jackasses were like "how could Hair Fuhrer have lost when we had more signs?", which was part of their bullshit claim that it was a stolen election.

Not this time, losers. Not this time.

Any idea which part of the coin I should bet on? .47 to .54 Trump right now with a $1.00 payout per contract for the winner.

Doesn't much matter who an international group of folks thinks will win the election or who they want to.

It's your money. Have fun!

If some daft Russian oligarchs think they can influence the election by dumping bitcoin on Trump and pretending it means the same as people voting, then that's their risk.

In the Western White Mountains to be exact (the Benton, Bath, Landaff, Haverhill, Easton, Lisbon, Franconia, Littleton area of Grafton County) I noticed that the homes and other buildings with Trump signs would have like 15 plus signs, while houses and buildings with Harris signs out front would have like only one, maybe two. I saw more Trump signs in numbers, but fewer locations with them out front, as opposed to Harris.

I was driving back home to the Lake Sunapee region and all along US 202, NH114, and NH103 it was like that.

What you saw was single homes with multiple Trump signs. Some signs were even homemade, which adds a special touch, esp when they were misspelled. *chef's kiss*

Other ones were like
TRUMP: Enforcement
HARRIS: Open Borders

TRUMP: LEADER
HARRIS: NASTY WOMAN

Lots of those. And considering the homes they were in front of.. lots of mobile homes or homes that have lots of junk cars out back, not surprised at all.

The Sinking Ship of Seabrook.

Large dilapidated boat on blocks festooned with Trump signs on the edge of a now regularly flooding tidal swamp set amongst a group of mobile homes on Route 286.

two groups of Trumpies holding signs -- on a Rte 1 overpass in Saugus and at the 128 rotary in Gloucester. Don't think any hearts and minds are being changed -- I think it's more like they want to distinguish themselves from the blue majority and they're proud of their poor choices.

Probably a good bet that at least several of them drove down from their homes in NH to "own the libs" in Boston instead of doing something productive.

In 2020 Trump got 3x the votes in MA than New Hampshire, about 1.1M votes in MA for about 1/3 of people who voted.

Of course, MA has a vastly larger population. But there's no shortage of idiots here even without the NH tourists.

I was in Northampton yesterday and there was some Trumpies at the circle near I-91 with a megaphone. (Because Northampton is known for its enthusiastic conservatives. /s) They were cheering on supporters but mostly seemed to trying to cause a fender bender. I got the impression they'd be glad to see a car wreck even if it involved two Trump supporters hitting one another, just so long as cars collided.

After a while a few people showed up with homemade anti-fascist signs and stood on the other side of the circle.

Good times.

These clowns love to show up at this spot on the weekends. In particular they love to jam the rotary with their flag-dripping small-penis vehicles, so yeah, you're not wrong about the "want to cause an accident" thing. I don't know if that's ever happened, but if it did they'd probably be surprised at how little support they got from Hamp cops. What are they doing there?
Remember that Northampton is even closer to New Hampshire than Boston, but also, we got homegrown ding-dongs too.

They’ve been doing this here and other overpasses, mostly on the South Shore, daily for months.

Heading down to the Cape for the weekend, there was a lonely Trumper on a bridge over 3 somewhere between Plymouth and the Sagamore holding a sign between the four Confederate flags he had affixed to the fencing. Both pathetic and offensive. I hope the ghost of Fighting Joe Hooker pays him a visit.

I was out the burbs today and saw a car spray painted all over with it's Bidens fault. I also saw a dumptruck with a huge sign that said guns and god with trump on the sign too. I am pretty concerned he might win, start setting interest rates , crash the economy and become a dictator who would stay in power for a decade until he dies and his dingbat son takes over

I had a coworker who is a MAGAt.
Always complaining about Obama (at the time) and Elizabeth Warren.
I told him, "Why do you live in the bluest state in the country if you can't stand people here? Why don't you move to Texas or another MAGA stronghold state?" No answer.
If you're going to be a Trumper, you have to accept that MA (among other blue states) isn't going to flip.
By the way, the way to make America great is to be a tax scofflaw.
This guy has a vacation property in FL. He gets to visit there 5 weeks a year. He works 47 weeks of the year here in MA. That makes MA his primary residence where he lives and earns a living.
He has a little puny motorcycle that has FL plates on it, so he avoids paying MA registration and other fees. Tax avoidance. MAGA. Uh huh...

Every four years it seems that voters must choose between the lesser of two evils when making the decision to vote for a candidate. Why can’t we have a choice of more moderate politicians? This election, in particular, is a most frustrating one.

up
Voting closed 35

These folks were the top Presidential nominees before the 2024 Presidential primaries. The only one even close to a real moderate was Mike Pence whose claim to fame was he actually did his job and did not endorse Trump:

Nikki Haley
Ron DeSantis
Asa Hutchinson
Vivek Ramaswamy
Chris Christie
Doug Burgum
Tim Scott
Mike Pence
Larry Elder
Perry Johnson
Will Hurd
Francis Suarez

If you want to know whose still on the ballot in one or more states go here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_Republican_Party_presidential_candidates.

There may be a real moderate among them: IMHO you'd be wasting your vote if you don't vote for either Trump or Harris in this election but that's just me.

This election is like a WWE wrestling match. Way too much hype, public stunts and trash talk, but some voters will put their alliances in as if they think they have skin in the game, in the hopes that their candidate will own the other. Thus, the media laps up all the ad revenue and internet clicks while the donors wait patiently for their pet causes to be fulfilled, served with a side of kickback money.

If you had two moderates in this campaign - sane, likeable, willing to talk about issues without talking down their voters - this election would be a lot better. The basic reason why you don't have moderates in this campaign is that moderates don't bring in ad revenue for the media, they don't get campaign contributions from the wealthy, and their ideas are saner and likely to be implemented more readily than the fantasies of the extremists.

Perhaps election reform, term limits, cutting out the WWE-style hype, voter reform (including ranked choice voting) and not letting idiots, agitators and extremists turn politics into a circus would be a step forward, but as long as you have lobbies and wealthy donors, you won't have moderates tossing their hat into the ring...and it's sorely needed.

The media has been failing for decades. Their pursuit of 'exciting' stories, while ignoring substantive reporting, has led to endless rounds of horse-race bullshit, culminating in Trump. If the media had not endlessly wallowed in sensational stories about his ridiculous, substance-free campaign in 2016, we wouldn't have to be enduring his noxious presence today. Think back - did any of the mainstream media use the word lie to characterize his fabrications back then? That was a disservice to the truth and the people.

up
Voting closed 34

They made him a TV star because Trump attracts attention, which is exactly what media companies do for a living.

They remade him as a credible candidate for the Presidency for the same reason.

Then-CBS president Les Moonves called Trump's campaign "damned good for CBS".

Media companies want Trump back in the White House, because it means more money for them.

Donald Trump called the media "enemies of the people"; ironically, he was right. Of course, he'll never bite the hand that feeds him.

From what I have read, the reason you get candidates on the extreme ends of the spectrum is that the people who vote in the primaries tend to have very liberal or very conservative candidates. Some girl/guy with middle of the road ideas isn't likely to make waves in Iowa or NH and thus they never get out of the starting gate. (They also have trouble raising money, since the funders tend to be on either end of the spectrum.)

Edit: I see BostonDog covered this below.

Remember Howard Dean? He was doing well in those early-primary states. Then he "screamed" and the media pilloried him for it, so he was done. Compare that "scream" to what goes on at any Trump rally, and tell me why the media hasn't been pounding him into the ground. Yeah, I know, corporate media. They stopped being news organizations long ago.

The primary system makes it hard for someone to run as a moderate. (And few even agree what defines a moderate.)

If you want more centrist politicians, support ranked choice voting. That's a system specifically designed to elect consensus candidates.

up
Voting closed 25

You talk like Kamala Harris isn't a centrist.

up
Voting closed 29

/s or humorous? I guess if you’re a far left-leaning liberal then Kamala is a centrist. She’s no centrist in my opinion. I am disappointed in the Democrats and what they’ve done over the past four years…and yes, I voted for Hillary (lesser of two evils at the time, although I can’t stand her), and Joe Biden. The Democratic party has changed to the point where it’s unrecognizable. If you’re involved in a special interest group that they support or if you’re a wealthy celebrity or industrialist who is never affected by the money they hemorrhage towards everyone and everything (but the poorer citizens, seniors, veterans, etc.) then, lucky for you, I guess. Some of the Democrats’ interests are far from what I support.

The Republican party is now the party of the working class. Sure, Trump has no morals and he’s a buffoon, but he appears to be surrounded by some people who might do good work for the country … specifically JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, RFK, Jr., etc. If you care to disagree, please do so in a civil manner, without calling me names. One reason why I don’t comment here very frequently (especially on hot topics like this) is the gang mentality that follows when someone dares to express an opinion that might be contrary to the majority of UHub readers. Thank you.

The phrase "far left-leaning liberal" is quite the tell.

The Republican party is now the party of the working class.

Really? Is that why they kneel every time he advances another pseudo-policy to funnel more money to the rich? Tell me again how tariffs helped the working class in Trump's administration.

Help increase the number of American-produced products and thereby create more jobs for Americans? Not much is made here anymore—-not even mundane things like bars of soap! My friend’s father worked in a factory, owned a home, and paid tuition for all his kids to attend college. There aren’t many good factory jobs here anymore that enable a man to support a family.

The entire maintenance department in my building (I believe maintenance jobs are considered working class) are voting for Trump! They’re not interested in identity politics, DEI, or funding illegal immigration (BTW three of the maintenance department staff are legal immigrants from South America—one is from Eastern Europe) or wars in other parts of the world. They’re far more interested in the economy and just being normal. I’ve also chatted with some veterans who are living in the nearby homeless shelter and they’ve told me that during the Biden administration their benefits were reduced, so they’re voting for Trump because they received more money when he was in office! He really attracts people who are vitally concerned about making a living and receiving the benefits they’ve earned through their service, not just the kooks holding signs on a bridge,

Listen, I have always voted the Democrat ticket, but have never considered myself a “far left leaning liberal,” so whatever you mean as a “tell” is a mystery to me. I am not a secret MAGA supporter and am not even referencing those people who are. It seems that the Democrats have lost interest in the ordinary working citizen and are more interested in special interest groups and public support from celebrities, academics from elite universities and wealthy tech executives. I think they’ve lost their way and are out of touch with the majority. That’s just my opinion. It’s very difficult for some of us to decide how to vote this year.

They fueled inflation and the retaliatory tariffs would have bankrupted hundreds of thousands of farmers had there not been a massive bailout.

but it’s not my intention to defend Donald Trump’s tariffs or any other Trump policies. As far as your thoughtful suggestion that I educate myself via “Coursera” Econ101 is concerned, I confess I am most likely not inclined to “take it.”

Pardon my elderly language skills, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for typing Democrat Ticket instead of Democratic Party. Allow me to assure you, I have always voted for Democratic candidates, I am not a liar and I find your criticism to be rude, insulting and offensive.

Edit: I was responding to llb’s comment, it was NOT intended for you. Perhaps you should mind your own business and not feel the need to prove how smart you (think you) are.

I align with what you wrote (EC at 2:07pm) save for: Vance, Gabbard and Kennedy, all of whom I see as untrustworthy opportunists…at best. I don’t approve of their methods and I certainly don’t trust their aims are true. Even as they attempt to bring the “left tail” and other “susceptibles” into the process and into the Republican Party by leveraging the pathology of conspiratorial thinking and mistrust the damage they are doing is real and my hope is our saving grace will that the bone sets stronger than it was before the break.

I’m a life-long Democrat and have only ever voted Democrat. I held my nose and voted for HRC and Biden out of fear, not love. I bought into the “Got Hype” around Obama and looking back I see the various damages done, one in drawing an American “red line” with his mouth, but forgetting the indispensable necessity of the “big stick” the lives lost in Crimea, Donbas and other parts of Ukraine are on him. And, in the first Presidential election I was old enough to vote I excitedly bought into the “comeback kid” not realizing what “triangulation” was then, and now wondering how much triangulation was “cause” rather than “effect” of our woes.

We are all in our parties’ respective boats. In the Republican Party the MAGA movement has muscled its way to the tiller. In the Democratic Party we’ve seceded a great deal of control by appeasing and pandering to anti-liberal and anti-democratic potential voters. Is Harris a “centrist?” Does it matter she’s a centrist yet the Party allows the margins to set the course of the whole ship?

P.s., 8:05pm 11/4/2024, how much did WJC’s blurring of the lines with triangulation &c… lead to the many blurred lines we are dealing with across domains?

I think this is a case of thinking that "We're helping" but not really. Why get involved with a campaign and have an organized effort vs just hanging out, hanging signs to your king over freeway overpasses?

His name aka his ego is important. Not talking about the issues or what he is going to do. Just his name.. to inflate that larger-than-life-itself ego even more. Thats all the rallies and parades are for, just to boost his ego, even tho the participants think they are 'helping his campaign'. Suckers being used for his own ego pumping.

I saw a "parade" of two, maybe three flag-bedecked testosterone-replacement pickup trucks turn from Arlington St to Newbury St honking their air horns. I just rolled my eyes and thought "what's the point? It's their gas, their waste" and carried on towards the Esplanade. About a half hour or so later, I heard them as they honked their way down Storrow Drive towards 93 and heard some sort of commotion (lots of honking, yelling) from the area by the Dartmouth St footbridge. From what I overheard, apparently someone walking over the bridge poured water or soda or sports drink on one of the trucks as it passed under, they ran away, the drivers freaked out, but their trucks were stuck in slow moving traffic, probably unable to exit after being committed to the tunnel as the perps walked away into the Back Bay. I guess the trucksters should be lucky it was only liquid and not eggs or rocks or something more damaging.

Bunch of heavily armed jackasses in pickup trucks setting off flash bangs and teargassing people just walking down the street in a historic black neighborhood in 2020. They also targeted black owned businesses for breaking windows and shooting flashbangs into them. Cops didn't do shit until they launched three concussion grenades into a parking structure that happened to be a precinct's parking.

So, tell me again how this is all okay? How it is just a special form of terrorism to be excused? People living in those neighborhoods didn't feel so secure.

These people are so desperate to bask in the glow of real human attention that they'll take disgust and disapproval over not being noticed at all. What they really wish is for every driver passing by them to give them a high five and tell them that they're okay, but if anyone points that out and tries to give them a hug, they get so embarrassed that they run off and commit genocide.

From what I've seen - and what my husband has told me of his HS time versus our sons' - the graduation requirements are far harder now than they ever were due to comprehensive statewide curriculum frameworks.
