Roslindale bar to close, but breakfast nook next door won't take over its space if it can get its own liquor license

Edit: Corrected to reflect that Harry's never had any plans to expand into the Kelleher's space.
Boston Restaurant Talk serves up the news that the Boston Licensing Board this week considers a request by Kelleher's Bar and Grille on Centre Street near Weld Street in Roslindale to sell its liquor license to some joint in the Hancock Building, um, 200 Clarendon St., in the Back Bay.

In September, the state gave Boston the right to issue 225 new licenses, over three years, mainly split among 13 specific Zip codes, including 02131. Unlike most older licenses, the new ones will be forever limited to the Zip codes in which they are issued - and cannot be resold on the open market.

In a much better world there'd be no caps and it wouldn't even be an issue.

In a still better than what we have now world, this license would have to stay in Rozzie.

Tiniest of violins for people whose wealth is staked on fake scarcity created by Beacon Hill. Go cry with the cabbies who got rugpulled by Uber.

We definitely need more breakfast spots. They are scarce and what's left is quickly disappearing.

I make my own breakfast once or twice a week, typically a three-egg cheddar cheese omelet with six sausages and four slices of english muffin. The ingredients for this meal cost about $3. I've been avoiding restaurant meals and takeout meals for some time, due to rising prices.

I will miss Kellehers. One of the few dive bars on this side of town.

I only went to Kelleher‘s a few times when I lived in Roslindale and I will never forget the two middle to late aged women that kept ordering wine with ice cubes in it. They both look like the Saturday Night Live characters with the sweatpants and such…
