The State House News Service reports the MBTA thinks all that track work on the Red Line means they could soon get those trains up to 50 m.p.h. - and that on at least one stretch, the Orange Line might top off at 55 m.p.h.
Don't the clueless liars who announce this and the front page lies about no more Orange Line slow zones actually RIDE the Orange Line EVERY DAY during rush hour a.m. to rush hour p m?? I ride it everyday from Forest Hills a.m. to North Station then 5:30 from North Station back to Forest Hills. Every day and evening for 2 weeks it's been DING DING DING DING with trains idling hideously long between each stop. MBTA Passenger Rage is RIGHTEOUS!!!
In NJ, I used to commute between Newark and Jersey City on the PATH.
Stretches of that positively rocket along - capped at 55 MPH. I have trouble imagining any stretch of Orange (or Red) that could approach that performance.
When I was in Washington DC a few years ago, the Metro often ran at 50-55mph from Crystal City to King St in Alexandria...it was glorious to go that fast.
… I would suspect the sad state of the rolling stock will temper that until those buckets of bolts from the 70s which shake, rattle, and roll their way along the line are finally replaced
Quincy, maybe? The only one I can think of is in the South Bay shopping center, and I93 would block the view even if the Andrew station was above ground.
Tracks are right across the Ave. and the station itself is very close by.

In theory, yes
But the signal and switch problems plaguing the system will probably keep the average speeds around 10mph.
Torture to ride the MBTA
with its stops and starts and slow crawling, once you've ridden in good European or Asian metros
As far as the RedLine is concerned….
… I would suspect the sad state of the rolling stock will temper that until those buckets of bolts from the 70s which shake, rattle, and roll their way along the line are finally replaced
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
…with the radio on?
Radio on!
Radio on!
Radio on!
Radio on!
The radio would be unlistenable static and feedback
like the PA systems on those subway cars.
Um
Yeah that's not how the song goes, sorry.
Going faster miles an hour
Gonna drive past the Stop 'n' Shop
With the radio on
I'm in love with Massachusetts!
Where is there a Stop and Shop near the Red Line tracks?

Newport Ave store in North Quincy
Tracks are right across the Ave. and the station itself is very close by.

Only Pablo Picasso
would have missed that reference.
