Update: Police say Joseph Donohue, 65, was stabbed repeatedly.
Boston Police report they are investigating the suspicious death of a man on a houseboat at the Charlestown Marina off Shipway Place in Charlestown.
Officers went to the man's houseboat around 10:40 p.m. Sunday after somebody requested a well being check. They found the man dead and the body of one of his two dogs floating in the water.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine a cause and manner of death and positively identify the individual.
Police say a Boston woman was arrested at the scene, but on unrelated warrants.

Always surprised that people spend the winter on their boats there. It’s cold enough just walking through the marina - can’t imagine staying out there, even though people winterize their vessels.

I have lived at Constitution Marina in Charlestown for over 20 years, with 100 boats with 1-4 people per boat, year-round. Not necessarily easy living, but beautiful and ever changing scenery.
Liveaboard life

Liveaboard life has always appealed to me (despite having virtually no sailing props). Based on the dockage agreement, It looks like a new resident at Constitution Marina could expect to pay ~$12K/year for a slip for a 30-ft yacht (plus additional fees, and $$$ for the boat and maintenance of course). That doesn't sound unreasonable, but how much does insurance cost? How often do boats get wrecked by storms?

I'm in my fourth year living on a boat in a marina in East Boston. I have a boat, not a houseboat, and my insurance is about $3K per year. The cost of electricity is higher than on land, I pay $200 per month for a storage unit and $700 per year to have the boat wrapped for the winter.
I don't know of any boats being wrecked by storms. Our marinas are in the inner harbor so they aren't as vulnerable. On those super cold days it's a bit chilly but it's generally just fine in the winter.
I love it. The most significant downside for me is in the summer when the summer people are around. We're all very close (physically close not emotionally or certainly not politically) and that gets to be a lot.

The death & houseboat were NOT at Constitution Marina. Insurance is not cheap...

when there is an unexpected death it is called a "Sudden" and detectives are called in. for it to be escalated to homicide means detectives determined it to be very sus.

Per Wikipedia (referencing his blog posts), Orlov moved to Russia (Karelia) in 2022, and is an avowed Putinist.

I thought Dmitry Orlov went to play for the Carolina Hurricanes after his time with the Bruins?
