Man murdered with shot to the back of the head after harbor cruise

Viking StarlinerVictim identified as Robert McDaniel; had escaped death twice before.
Boston Police report the man had been on a harbor cruise on the Viking Starliner and that a fight may have broken out on the ship. The victim, identified only as a man in his 20s, was shot on the dock after the ship had pulled in around 2:20 a.m., police say.
Channel 7 reports he was shot in the back of the head and that police are looking for a white SUV.
The shooting was almost three years to the day after another man was shot to death after getting off a harbor cruise ship by Pier 4. Police continue to look for Courtney Wilson's killer.

I can't find an easy way to tell whether there was a show last night. (Ticketing sites never show past events, only future ones.)

Updated my post with a link to a Globe report that he was on a cruise ship - a couple piers over from where another man was shot to death almost exactly three years ago after getting off a cruise ship.

A guy that works in the same complex as me (it's in Dedham and rhymes with Pegacy Lace) was on the cruise ship last night. He said he'd already left when the shooting happened, but a friend of a friend of a friend said it started with one guy trying to talk to a girl, and that girl shooting back attitude.
How that escalates to shooting someone in the back of the head, I don't know. Then again, I don't get the idea of going out to sea to get drunk.

Who handles the investigation MSP or BPD? If the state is assuming jurisdiction then the crime stat will be carried by the State so the city won't have to list the homicide on its stat report.

The person who was killed was a really great kid. His brother was also shot & killed my senior yr of hs :( He is missed by so many people, please pray for his family esp his mom who has now lost her only son.

He was a thug who drove around drunk and with hollow-point bullets loaded in a gun stashed in a secret compartment in his car. That's not a great person at all.

listen wow i am an ex girlfriend of his an i really dont like how you are slandering this boy rob was wonderful. he would give the shirt off his back for most people he cared about he was bright an cheerful always full of laughter an he still has one brother who is alive so to say that his mother lost her only son is a lie she laid to rest one son, an robert on monday. i think this world is very judgemental and that is crazy no one diserves to die like that. rob was tryin to get his life together an yes he might not have been the best person but many people loved him an adored him... so i think if you dont have anything to say that is nice about this person or situation then you just need to keep there mouths shut cause that is wrong for you to say why he was killed or it was karma cause your all wrong this was a random act of violence because his girlfriend didnt want to b hit on... and that was her right. anyway he will always be missed an our hearts we love you robert fly with the angels
