Police: A little trash talking inside Roxbury bar ends with man shot outside bar

Boston Police report a man was shot several times outside Packy Connors, 203 Blue Hill Ave., late Friday night.

According to a police report, bar staffers had ejected the victim and another man for arguing shortly before midnight. The victim told police he was shown the rear door and was walking along Southwood Street when "some guy ran up on him swinging" and a violent struggle ensued.

Bar security broke that fight up and told the victim to leave the area immediately. Instead, however, "he remained on scene standing in front of of Packy's on Southwood Street for approximately 5-10 minutes when the individual he was fighting with returned from the Blue Hill Avenue area and started firing."

The report says the man denied arguing with anybody inside the bar, although he allowed as how "he remembers someone talking trash but that he felt he wasn't in an argument." The report does not say whether the shooter was the man ejected via the bar's front door.

The victim was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening gunshot injuries to the stomach, lower back and left arm. One of the bullets also damaged an SUV parked nearby. A witness reported hearing four shots.

Packy Connors once had a reputation as a neighborhood trouble spot, but has generally been on good terms with the Boston Licensing Board since 2009, when it had its license pulled in an emergency session following a quadruple shooting at closing time. The board reinstated the bar's license just three days later

The board will now face an appearance before the board to explain its role in the most recent incident.
