How many people died in Boston

How many people in Boston died from handgun violence from the time of the bombing to the capture of the younger brother?
Agreed

One word, Republicans.
They make the guns available, fully knowing those of lower socioeconomic status will use said guns to cull their own ilk, thereby reducing the number of those dependent on welfare.
They would then tear down the projects, which would be no longer needed, and replace them with Republican indoctrination centers where they force you to love Jesus, hate LGBT, eat meat, and learn to break down an AR15, clean it, and reassemble under 30 seconds....blindfolded.
Then for the final "swearing in" your choice is to either a) knee-cap each member of a hardworking immigrant family or b) form a human chain around the nearest planned parenthood while singing bible hymms from the new testament.
Amirite?

Are you high on prescription and/or street drugs?
The projects are 'needed' because we continue to allow huge numbers of uneducated and under-educated people into the U.S., even though there are not enough of the types of jobs they can do available. In fact, they cause wages for those at the bottom to be lower than they should be. And most collect multiple forms of government assistance. The only people who benefit are retail outlets [more consumers and poorly paid employees, possible because the government assistance picks up the slack]. And of course well paid municipal, state and federal workers, along with the Democratic party at the national level and local corrupt machine level.
Those projects were built for returning vets from WW2 and Korea, were not bad places to live until the late 1960s, post LBJ's Great Society welfare state. By the 70s they were uber violent and the cause for much of the violent street crime in surrounding neighborhood. Nothing has really changed since the 70s [40 years] except the projects are periodically beautified with planters and fresh paint.
As for gun control, WE HAVE IT IN BOSTON AND MA. Yet there's still a big problem, in certain neighborhoods, and especially in public housing projects. And those problems in certain neighborhoods and the projects is due to culture, or rather sub-culture. I've seen many ideas and 'reforms' come and go in my lifetime regarding this subject, needless to say, none of them worked at relieving or fixing the problem of violence and violent crime in certain neighborhoods and the projects. Billions [trillions, actually] have been spent since the 60s on our so-called war on poverty. All kinds of laws have been passed for this or that. 40-50 years, trillions of dollars, still a BIG problem in certain neighborhoods and in the projects.
And no, I'm not a 'teabagger', or neocon, Republican. What I am is fed up, and I know BS when I see it. Doesn't matter if it's being sprouted by an eager young fresh face, 'progressive' ideas on this subject are just drivel at this point.
Thank you

There are not enough people pointing this out.

I've read that Canada requires prospective immigrants to prove that the job that they want to do can not be capably performed by somebody who already lives in Canada.
But hey, they're a clean country with little crime and happy, polite, pleasant residents. At what point do we finally look at that and admit "hey, they do a lot of things right?"
Not entirely true

My brother emigrated in 2009 - his wife sponsored him. He didn't start working for five months after that, but there was no separate work permit involved (he just took that time to settle in with the wife and he lives in a small town). He didn't have to prove that nobody else could do that job.
If I decide to move, I wouldn't have to prove anything either as my sister-in-law can sponsor me (although my line of work and credentials are both in demand and specialized enough that I have been courted for a couple of positions - even under the new entry regulations).
If my son falls in love with McGill University during next month's visit, he would be able to attend on a student visa. Many foreign students attend Canadian colleges on student visas, and can get a work permit for outside of campus if they so choose. Unlike most foreign students, my boy could just give his uncle a call if he wants to be permanently Canadian.
Also, once you are in, Canada has a pretty fast track for citizenship compared to the US. My brother is up for citizenship in the next two years.

And lord knows it must be oh so tempting to count coup on Swirly (there's probably no long-termers here who havn't knocked heads with her at least once), but she didn't really disagree with Will (at least about having some things we could learn from Canada). She simply described her familial experience. Immigrants to Canada who don't already have relatives there might have to qualify just as Will described.
Swirly's manner can be frustrating to those with whom she's arguing, but she's usually right when she asks someone to justify a general statement of objectively-verifiable fact (eg, violent crime is up, higher per capita bikes use = more accidents, etc.). She doesn't tend to dismiss personal accounts out of hand, although she might disagee with the lessons thereof.

Having close family in Ottawa and Alberta, and Canadian friends, I know most Canadians don't like being considered push-overs when it comes to immigration. They know perfectly well their system, like the U.S. system, is abused and politicized.

You do realize that the person you are responding to is actually on your side and put out that post as their characterization of what they believe a liberal or progressive would say in response to someone asking a question about gun violence in the city, right? Either that or my sarcasm meter is really out of whack. Cuz like, you know BS when you see it...right?
