when
will this senseless violence end? i find myself kept awake at night at the morbidity of the news recently
In Chicago
No Shootings Since 'Army' of Moms Set Up on South Side - But They Need Help

I wonder if we could do something similar.
Wishful thinking.

Agreed
We have Isaura Mendes a woman who lost 3 sons to violence plus countless nephews. She organizes the Peace walk wit other moms of children lost to violence every MAY! We as a community can do it in shifts!
No Shooting
It's a great idea but they're talking about one block in Chicago.
If you want to know the reality see Second City Cop

That's the reality.

BLA
Latin Academy students return to Townsend in 4/5 weeks. Normandy/Seaver where innocent Mom shot down yesterday few blocks away. What's a parent to do...Duxbury ??
That's A Quandry
I live near Duxbury but grew up in Dorchester. I was never shot at and live a nearly happy fulfilled life, though one always was aware of ones surroundings and knew there were a few dozen areas to be avoided whilst growing up in the city.
My son plays (and beats) Duxbury a lot in sports. I will say this. I would rather have my kid face the danger zone of being a kid in the city most days than have him turn into the slimy snot that nearly everyone whom I encounter, especially the kids, in Duxbury. The town is the Omega frat from Animal House brought to life.
People give Hingham a bad rap, no way. Hingham has its warts and tools like anyplace with a high income bracket but for the most part is filled with a great number of nice, friendly people who have earned their way into that town. The town wells in Duxbury seem to have Hermes rose water in them and they seem to let everyone know it.
Your kid will be fine at Latin Academy. Relax. The Yummies don't shoot a school buses and they are usually asleep during school hours anyway.
Guns
Thats not entirely true I was with my kids at their house in roxbury and somebody shot up the house across the driveway around 1230 in broad daylight and the house they shot up has a young child inside they dont care anymore about who gets killed young , old, man or woman
so many shootings
So many shootings this year. What the hell??? I mean, this IS more than the usual number of shootings, isn't it? And how messed up is it that I casually refer to "the usual" when it comes to shootings? *sigh*
I swear the only reason our
I swear the only reason our homicide rate isn't really alarming is because we have so many quality hospitals in the area.
If this were any other city, we would realize it isn't as "safe" as we are led to believe.
Have our hospitals really
Have our hospitals really changed/improved leading up to 2003 (lowest murder count), or went down from then to now (with trending better)? It is an interesting question as to why (thankfully) there are not more homicides given the increase in shootings.
Thank the lord for EMS
The body count in Boston would rival other cities if it wasn't for the life saving skills of EMS,BFD,and the doctors and nurses of our fine hospitals.
Can we have a standing gun buy back program?
$100/per working handgun, any police station in the city, no questions asked....
Maybe
We could have afforded this great idea if we won the olympic bid
The buyback programs aren't all that effective.
I'm sure they were at one point. Now they've become an event which people have come to abuse:

Well with
The Rev. Shaun Harrison in jail, it may be hard to run an effective buy back.
Do you really think criminals
Do you really think criminals turn in their hardware at those things?
The DOJ Institute of Justice has studied the heck of out them and they don't work.
