That'll fix it!
When did
Dorchester become safer than South End?
Right after people started
Right after people started referring to Roxbury as the South End.
Yes!! Thank you. I've been
Yes!! Thank you. I've been saying this for years. That is a very dangerous area! Always has been
Clutch those pearls a little tighter, please
I realize having to occasionally rub elbows with the drunks and junkies doesn't help sell million-dollar condos, but calling it "very dangerous" these days is pushing it. Not a single neighborhood in Boston ranks in the top 25 worst neighborhoods in the country, including Big Bad Roxbury. I hate to sound like someone else here, but go spend a night in Baltimore or Camden or Chicago's South Side and come back and let's chat. The South End ain't Williamsburg; it ain't East New York either.
I realize all of the former neighborhoods of Roxbury (South End, Mission Hill, JP) would love to lop off the bad parts back to Roxbury to keep those housing prices high, but, guess what, that's your neighborhood too; and all the gentrification in the world won't make the problems just magically disappear.
The border of the city of Roxbury was a block west of there
so calling it Roxbury is a recent development.
this is the south end, not roxbury
i lived on this block. all the resident street signs say SOUTH END. the Roxbury signs start a little further down tremont around camden st

I always use the city of boston's parking definition which pushes South End down five blocks south-west of mass ave.
I think nobody argues that crossing Melnea Cass takes you into Roxbury. It's almost as if we need a new name for the island of land between Mass Ave, Melnea Cass and the rail. Lower Lower Roxbury? SWOMA?
Dorchester?
The Roxbury / South End line (if you go by parking permits) is Northampton St. Though the south side of Mass Ave is grouped into Roxbury from a Boston service districts point of view.
Where are you getting Dorchester from?
Dorchester
Or rather certain parts of it are usually on the news when it comes to shootings, though lately it's been fairly quiet and most of the shootings have been happening in South End and JP.
