Transit Police report arresting a Dorchester woman on charges she threw hot coffee in a T worker's face around 9:30 p.m. yesterday.
Police say Janet Bourke, 61, of Dorchester, was trying to get into Broadway on the Red Line without paying when the worker spotted her and tried to stop her.
The victim was treated at the scene by Boston EMTs.
Police say Bourke was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. During booking, police say, she punched an officer in the face, which is good for a separate charge of assault and battery on a police officer.
Innocent, etc.

Fare Evasion
Does an MBTA employee other than a police officer have the lawful right to physically restrain a senior citizen or a child for the non payment of a fare which is a civil not criminal violation ? l know fare jumping is out of control but pouncing on senior citizens seems like overkill.
MBTA Inspectors (white shirts
MBTA Inspectors (white shirts) can issue fare evasion cites. I don't believe they have any authority to stop people so it's extremely rare.
Is 61 a senior citizen now?

Where dies it mention the physical restraint/pouncing? A T official trying to stop someone for fare evasion typically never goes beyond "Ma'am, you need to pay your fare." and watch as they continue on to the platform.
61 = senior citizen?

them up. Globe Magazine blind date???
How
does a cop allow himself to get punched in the face by an elderly woman? Granted, she definitely looks like a good dooker.

Fare evaders need to be punished. You want to take the train, pay your share. If not WALK! I will not let you piggyback me. No excuses.

I'm the Starbucks barista who sold this lady her coffee. And by "sold" I mean "she came in muttering incomprehensibly and swearing at nothing in particular so I took her $2 and gave her a cup of coffee because I wanted to go back to how my life was before knowing she existed as soon as possible."
I assume she tried evading her fare because I charged her $2 for a cup of coffee. In my defense it cost $2.59 and I took pity on her. Also the guy she threw it at is fine, as I've already talked to the cops and MBTA officials. That said, I've been laughing really hard at the butterfly effect.
Clearly
Life has not been kind to this woman. Thank you for not piling on.
