I realize local print and TV are going broke and have long given short-shrift to murders in Roxbury, Mattapan and Dorchester but the South Boston double homicide would seem to be a blockbuster with the disparity of the parties involved, the location in a million dollar condo and the reported methods used. So why is the best coverage in the UK Daily Mail?

Even ABC (national) News had the police dispatch tapes, easily obtained with a premium subscription to broadcastify. The tapes clear up some discrepancies. The call was from "a friend" who said "someone was in the home with a gun." Earlier local media reports called it a "disturbance" or "well being check" which are very different. It appears when police arrived they heard shots and calmly called for two bullet resistant shields and a long gun. Prior to this, I was led to believe police opened the door and were fired upon unexpectedly. No clarity from Boston media.

There was a time when reporters and cops would trade stories, smoking cigarettes inside the Homicide Unit or have a beer after work at Foleys. Only ch. 4's Cheryl Fiandaca (former BPD spokesman, Bratton's ex-wife) had the sources and she broke the "throats slashed" aspect. It's too bad that in the information age, there is less information than the 1950s.

But you might want to take a look at today's Globe story.

And surely, you, of all people, realize that the story that ultimately emerges from an incident like this is often quite different from what seems to be the case at first - it may not quite be the fog of war, but things can be confusing in the first few hours, no?

Confusing in the first few hours but usually not when the scene was processed and suspect immediately placed in custody almost 48 hours ago. The police have the information, reporters just don't have the sources to get it. We'll get a summary in the morning at the arraignment, just surprising the UK papers have more info than any of the Boston media. In fact, while the Braintree police audio was immediately in the media after that shooting, ABC News was the first I heard of the South Boston police radio audio.

I can't see the Globe story, since I'm one of "many, many" (according to their Philippine call center) who canceled after the fake Trump front page. Still, if the Globe has more information, usually the local outlets report it by saying, "according to the Boston Globe..." The only new information that the Globe has possibly broken is "a message of retribution" written on the wall, whatever that means. The male doctor's text for help was in the news earlier.

Fiandaca had the "slit throats" scoop. Not much else from the Boston media crowd. Perhaps they have the weekend off.

To check out some nice "red state" locations - Houston, New Orleans, etc.

That doesn't mean that these incidents are *good*, but the mayhem level in Boston is exponentially less than it is in places where legal gun access is legion - even rural places.

Then why does MA have worse crime with firearms than VT, NH, and ME which are Constitutional Carry states? Please post your citations from: https://www.bjs.gov

MA is the most violent state in New England.

Violent crime rates 2015 (rate per 100,000)

Massachusetts- 390.9
Texas- 412.2
Oklahoma- 422
Arkansas- 521.3
New Mexico- 656.1
And anything goes Alaska- 730.2

By the way, to put what Adam said in a different light, there is a correlation between density and violent crime by and large. A friend of mine once worked for a newspaper in rural northern Vermont. He once told the tale of a fight breaking out at a bar. One of the people said they were going to go home, get their gun, and shoot the other person. 30 minutes later, after driving 15 miles each way, they returned to find the police at the scene. That's rural crime.

And if you looked up the violent crime rate like I did, you'd have more ammo, but the implication was that strong gun laws somehow make people less safe. Just by data, I'm safer in nanny state Massachusetts than in gun crazy Texas by a mile.

but also seen as extremely bigoted and racist, so no one will just come out and say it.

There are plenty of "blue state" cities that are a lot less safe than Boston, like Chicago and Baltimore.

But yeah, Boston is both safer than a lot of other cities and a lot safer than it was in the 80s (my "back in the day" point of reference)

The police department rarely if every captures the killers out here in Boston. This is the problem

The murderers seem to be emboldened with the fact that the very rare get caught.

I know the nicknames of my brothers killers and they are still walking around in the street. I was told not enough evidence.
