Crime wave?
Is it just me our have these things gotten more frequent recently including shootings.
Could the COVID-19 lock-down be causing this because there are less law-abiding witnesses on the streets now and criminals feel emboldened?
It's hard to say. I live in
It's hard to say. I live in Eastie not far from here and had to call the local cop line on a guy the other day that was screaming his head off at 10PM and was stomping around erratically all over the neighborhood. If he had come into contact with somebody I think he would've killed them. At night, there are definitely more people at home, but if nothing is loud enough to get people's attention it very well could go unnoticed. Meanwhile, this guy woke up the whole damn neighborhood, everyone was out on their decks, so on.
I don't see how something at Meridian and Harve could go unnoticed.
Channel 7 had a report this
Channel 7 had a report this morning that while traffic has been halved for the last month fatal auto crashes is up for the same period compared to last year.
A bit misleading
Traffic fatalities across the state increased by just 1 from April, 2019 to April, 2020. The problem is that miles driven has dropped 50%, so the net effect is a doubling of the fatality rate, which is an indication that people are driving worse than before.
Stress
There is an uptick, some is normal as summer arrives but also an increase compared to last year.
May partly from quieter streets.
But also people are stressed out. Scared. Drinking more. Dealing with family conflicts. Poverty. Lots of reasons why it may be a busy summer...
Possibly
Possibly, but I notice that most of the places where these things are taking place are places where they happen anyway. I live in East Boston and there have been incidents in that vicinity even when there isn't a lockdown. And other recent incidents reported on this site that took place in that little park near the entrance to Mass General and various convenience stores are all areas frequented by opiate addicts and others with mental health issues.
Crime
I think there’s little doubt crime rates are changing as daily life has changed although I haven’t seen any clear stats. A good friend in Seattle was forced at knife-point Saturday to drive around until his car-jacker had been satisfied that the apocalypse had not arrived. Anecdotally, law enforcement (my neighbor) says they are responding to more domestic violence and generally seeing signs people’s mental health is being really being put to the test.
