Man awaiting trial for attacking jail guard charged with gunpoint robbery at entrance to the Corner downtown

A Dorchester man was arraigned today on an armed-robbery charge for an incident at an entrance to the Corner Mall at Washington and Winter streets on Sept. 22, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Alex Philogene, 26, was ordered held in lieu of $25,000 bail, but even if he could have made that, he would have remained behind bars because Boston Municipal Court Judge Eleanor Sinnott revoked his bail on earlier charges, including assault and battery on a correctional officer, the DA's office reports. According to the DA's office:

Assistant District Attorney Brianna Callahan said that at about 4:50 pm on Thursday, Sept. 22, Boston police responded to a radio call at Washington and Winter streets in Downtown Crossing. The victim told officers that a man brandishing a small handgun approached him as he was entering the Corner Mall. The man took the victim’s bag, which included cash, tattoo equipment, clothing, cigarettes and various prescription medicines.

Responding officers were able to view surveillance video and e-mailed photos from that to other downtown officers - some of whom spotted Philogene on Tremont Street - the DA's office reports. Police did not find a gun, but did recover a knife from Philogene, the DA's office adds.

Innocent, etc.

Everything, everywhere Downtown is covered by a video camera somewhere these days. I wonder how long it will be until residential neighborhoods are also covered this way?
