15-year-old nabbed walking down Devon Street in Dorchester with a loaded gun, police say

Boston Police report gang-unit officers who were looking for a teen who might have a gun found him on Devon and Laredo streets in Dorchester around 2:30 p.m. yesterday and decided to have a chat when they spotted him with his "hand in his pocket, and a rectangular bulge near his waistline."

Officers immediately felt the presence of a firearm, and knew that the suspect could not have a license to carry a firearm due to his age. Officers were able to safely recover a firearm from the suspect’s waistband. The firearm was determined to be a Smith and Wesson MP Shield with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.

Police add that as the officers were arresting the 15-year-old, "a large crowd formed around them and began shouting obscenities at officers" and then trying to keep the teen from getting arrested.

The teen, not identified because of his age, was charged with being delinquent for illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. Two of the people in the crowd were also arrested, on charges of disturbing the peace and resisting arrest, police say.
