Dragonfly at Witness Post in Dedham

The Army Corps of Engineers maintains a "witness post" at the dam that diverts some of the Charles River into the Mother Brook in Dedham. It's probably related to the little metal tube next to the post, from which the corps probably can easily draw out some water for tests, but we'd prefer to think it's a place to see things we don't usually see.

Where the Charles River used to be

All that brown is normally river bottom. See it larger.

The level of the Charles River where Millennium Park in West Roxbury meets Cutler Park in Dedham and Needham is now so low that somebody who doesn't mind getting their calves wet - and maybe sinking into some mud - could easily wade across at its narrowest points. Read more.

Lots of buses

Brendan reports the Dedham Mall has finally found a use for its usually half-empty parking lot off Incinerator Road: Fill them with the buses and shuttle vans that will carry the Lacoste set to and from the US Open at, not just any country club, but THE Country Club.

Ed. note: On a food run to the Stop & Shop there just now, I noticed a bunch of the vans were from Morgan State, which is in Maryland.

Earlier today I'd linked to a Patch article about moms (plural) in Dedham getting outraged about the way a local ice-cream shop was giving ice-cream cones to kids who'd gotten vaccinated against Covid-19. Turns out it was one anti-vaxxer woman. So you should still go to Ron's if you need an ice-cream cone, and if you like the idea of helping encourage kids to get shots, you should still donate to Cones Against Covid but not because Dedham is full of pro-Covid moms.

Empty paper-towel and toilet-paper shelves at Dedham Stop and Shop

This was the paper towel/toilet paper aisle at the Dedham Stop &;amp; Shop late this afternoon. Maybe it was just one of those things, or are people stocking up on the paper goods again?

They did have a pallet of six-month packages of Scott paper towels at the other end, along with a pallet of one of paper towels under one of those foreign brand names you'd never heard of before, oh, April 2020: Read more.
