Election roundup: Marty's back; sprinkler fitters back Essaibi George
The erstwhile hizzonah made a quick trip back to his old stomping grounds today. Why? Dunno, don't care, we're just too blase, but we take note that of all the places in Boston he could have breakfast, he chose the counter at Richy's on River Street in Hyde Park, where he ate with state Rep. Rob Consalvo:
So great to start the day having breakfast with my friend @SecMartyWalsh at Richy’s in #HydePark! Enjoyed having him back in the neighborhood and connecting with friends. pic.twitter.com/hyTHStZDP0

Local sprinkler fitters are showering their love on Annissa Essaibi George: Sprinkler Fitters Local 550 has endorsed her:
Annissa Essaibi George has shown up and stood up for Boston’s hardworking families and residents time and time again - not just during campaign season. Now we’re proud to support her in her candidacy for Mayor of Boston. Annissa shares our belief that to build a strong middle class we must invest in apprenticeship programs and bolster our local workforce. We know she’ll prioritize all of us as our next Mayor of Boston.
NBC Boston takes a look at Wu's and Essaibi George's stands on things.
WGBH breaks down the reasons why City Hall didn't start reporting results from the preliminary for hours and hours after the polls closed - to the point that we knew the official winner of the California recall election, where polls closed three hours after ours first.

“You do not want partial
He's out of touch. That's exactly what the public wants.
He's right
The better system is mail/dropoff voting for everyone. It works for other states.
I don't know what the big deal is with the delay. Sure, everyone wants to know right away. But how does it matter if the winner is announced at 10pm or 10am?
Of course it doesn't matter
Of course it doesn't matter if the winner is announced at 10pm or 10am. Technically, the official winner of the California recall isn't even known today. The results aren't yet certified, which will takes weeks.
But the street still wants (Galvin's words) the current tally before the counting is done. It's only government officials who want to gatekeep the partial results as a secret among themselves. The public wants transparency throughout the counting.
Damned either way
Some people will wrongly take partial data as the final result claim fraud when later results change the outcome.
And if they don't release anything partial, people will claim officials were using the time to change the outcome.
They can't win. In the past year people have been conditioned to distrust elections and that will not end well.
Of course it matters
When the news anoints a winner early it becomes voter suppression. Many people don’t bother to vote at that point and it definitely affects the results. This has been common knowledge for decades. No need to go all Veruca Salt.
Mail voting wouldn't help this situation
I'd rather not wait several days to get the results as election officials wait for postmarked ballots to arrive.
Many good reasons to not do partial results
If you were alive in 1980, you would know the reasons - partial results impact whether people actually vote at all.
In 1980 the controversy was
In 1980 the controversy was exit polls, not partial results. And that issue is irrelevant here because at 8:01pm the polls are closed and the die is already cast - unless you're arguing that releasing partial results will cause the voters still standing in line at the polls to give up, not vote, and go home.
And either way, whether someone chooses to vote is for the individual to decide.
Do you have anything to back
Do you have anything to back up this claim?
I don’t care either.
I’m just reminded how glad I am that Marty is no longer our mayor.
Wu-Hoo!
Love Richy’s
It’s a hidden local gem.
What I wouldn’t give
How? How has she stood up for Boston’s hard working families and residents? What is she planning to do? Don’t give me lines, give me details! I want details!
All I know about AEG is that she’s a repeat tax delinquent, unapologetically pulls favors for herself, wants more money and more cops, has no problem reserving the best educational institutions for privileged people and doesn’t care whether public service employees catch, spread and die of covid.
Details! Give me details!
Don’t forget her developer
Don’t forget her developer husband squeezing every tax credit he can out of the city while building more “luxury” condos that contribute to our housing crisis.
So
Let's say no more "luxury" housing gets built and everyone has to compete for existing housing instead. Where will you end up if there are ten techbros lining up offering your landlord a whole lot more than you can afford?
And don’t forget she is anti tenant.
Against rent stabilization. She would represent absentee landlords not actual residents of Boston.
AEG doesn’t give a bleep for working class families.
Smart move by Consalvo
He's probably maxed out his state pension so time to get a federal gig. It's the Jim Rooney way.
What's with the empty shelves?
Is there a hurricane on the way that I don't know about?
I think it's always like that
Maybe a holdover from the days when it was also a pharmacy?
How can we miss Marty when he
How can we miss Marty when he won't stay away?
Ah, Richy's
