Six-alarm fire hits three Maverick Square buildings; one resident brought down by ladder

Fire on Maverick Street

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 183 Maverick St. in East Boston shortly after 3:30 a.m. for what turned into a six-alarm fire that spread to two adjoining buildings.

The department reports nobody was injured but that one resident was rescued via a ladder from the second floor. Some 25 residents were displaced.

Firefighters were ordered out of the main fire building as flames broke through the roof. The department reports that the cold temperatures didn't help - all that water froze on contact, making the streets slippery.

Same building caught on fire at some point between 2011 and 2017. When the owners finally got around to rebuilding it, I remember noticing that there were no fire walls. Make you wonder about all the other rehabs and new constructions in Eastie. I finally had to move away. Got priced out.

Living in an apartment or condo makes you wonder how much of a fire safety behavior and practicing person your neighbors are.
